The State University of New York System Administration is seeking a Video Creator to help produce a variety of video content, with an emphasis on compelling short-form videos for social media platforms. The position will report to the Manager of Multimedia Production in the Office of Press and Communications, where they will help produce, curate, and edit videos on a daily basis to advance the strategic priorities of the Chancellor's Office and the State University of New York.

This role is ideal for someone who lives and breathes digital storytelling, understands platform trends, has a firm grasp of video production and editing, and wants to work with a creative team dedicated to the mission of public higher education.

This is an in-person position in Albany, New York. Occasional travel to SUNY campuses and other offsite locations may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, shoot, and edit short-form videos optimized for platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and Facebook
  • Work with colleagues across the State University of New York system to help generate and curate content for use in System social media and marketing
  • Collaborate with communications, marketing, social media, and creative teams to align video content with brand messaging, campaign goals, and messaging priorities
  • Stay up to date with social media trends, audio memes, and platform algorithms to inform content strategy
  • Assist with the development of storyboards or shot lists when needed to guide production
  • Manage video assets, including organizing footage, maintaining version control, and archiving
  • Occasionally appear on camera or direct subjects when needed

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience creating short-form video content for social media (portfolio required)
  • Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, or mobile editing apps)
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and audience behaviors.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent storytelling, pacing, and visual composition skills
  • Familiarity with motion graphics and basic animation is a plus
  • Comfortable with both mobile and professional camera equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in influencer marketing or UGC-style content creation
  • Still photography skills
  • Passion for pop culture, internet trends, and digital media

Additional Information

  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is NOT available for this position.
  • Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $55,000-$62,000 annually.
  • State Title: Staff Assistant (SL-2) and is part of the United University Professions Union.
