Video Production Teaching Assistant – Youth Filmmaking Workshop (Summer 2026)

DIFF WORKS is a creative studio and education hub rooted in Oakland. We run youth workshops that build real-world creative skills and open doors to careers in media and production.

About the Role

We're hiring a Teaching Assistant for our summer youth filmmaking workshop. You'll work alongside our lead instructor supporting two groups: 10 elementary kids (Mon/Wed/Fri) and 10 teens (Mon/Wed). The TA is on site all 3 days.

Students will direct and produce their own original short films from start to finish. The workshop wraps with a mini film festival where students screen their films for family and friends.

Responsibilities

• Co-facilitate sessions and support classroom management for both age groups
• Teach filmmaking fundamentals: shot types, framing, lighting, and audio
• Help students develop their film ideas, storyboards, and shot lists
• Support and coach students hands-on during shoots
• Edit students' final film projects using Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere
• Assist with equipment, logistics, and the end-of-workshop film festival
• Coordinate with DIFF WORKS staff on planning and documentation

Schedule

• Monday: Elementary + Teens
• Wednesday: Elementary + Teens
• Friday: Elementary only

Required Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of videography and video production principles. This is a must.
• Understanding of shot composition, lighting, and audio recording
• Proficient in Final Cut Pro and/or Adobe Premiere
• Experience working with youth in a classroom or workshop setting
• Good classroom management and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Final Cut Pro and/or Adobe Premiere
• Familiarity with DJI drones or DJI Osmo Pocket cameras
• Background in film, media arts, or youth education

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
