About Sidekick Media
Sidekick Media is a small-but-mighty creative studio based in Aurora, IL. We produce cinematic brand videos, talking head content, mini documentaries, recap films, social content, and brand photography for a wide range of clients — from industrial and corporate companies to nonprofits, agencies, and religious organizations.
We’re a team that believes in doing excellent work and having a good life outside of work. Our vibe is pretty simple:
Do the job well, enjoy the creative process, and then go live your life.
We’re growing and this role is our first major creative hire — someone who wants to build something with us long-term.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Videographer & Content Creator who is hungry to grow, loves figuring things out, and wants to own real responsibility in a creative business.
This is a hybrid role with a mix of shooting, editing, content creation, pre-production planning, gear prep, and hands-on support on set. You’ll work from home most days, but you’ll be on set or at our Aurora location 1–3 days a week depending on projects.
If you’re creative, self-motivated, and love storytelling through video — this might be the perfect fit.
What You’ll Do:
Video Production
- Shoot interviews, talking heads, b-roll, run-and-gun footage, and small brand films
- Set up lighting, audio, and camera systems (often in small 1–2 person crews)
- Assist on larger productions and run small shoots independently
- Prep, organize, and maintain gear before and after shoots
Post-Production
- Edit videos in Premiere Pro (must be comfortable or willing to transition from Resolve)
- Build timelines, color-correct, and create clean, cinematic edits
- Collaborate with offshore editors as needed
- Organize project files and manage deliverables through Frame.io and Google Drive
Pre-Production & Creative
- Help plan shoots (shot lists, timelines, logistics)
- Brainstorm ideas and collaborate on creative direction
- Assist with content creation for social media (short-form videos, photos, thumbnails)
- Contribute to shaping the visual style and story of each project
Client Interaction
- Handle occasional emails, calls, and video meetings
- Interact professionally with clients on set
- Read the room, stay calm under pressure, and represent Sidekick Media with confidence
Skills & Experience We’re Looking For
You don’t need to be a senior pro — we’ll train the right person — but you must come in with solid skills and a drive to get better every month.
Required:
- Strong videography fundamentals (composition, lighting, audio, exposure)
- Video editing experience (Premiere Pro preferred)
- A strong sense of story — you care about how a video feels, not just how it looks
- Good communication skills and reliable email management
- Ability to lift and carry 50+ lbs (gear can be heavy)
- Ability to drive to Aurora, IL weekly
- Portfolio demonstrating shooting + editing ability (required)
Bonus Skills (not required but great to have):
- After Effects, Lightroom, and Photoshop
- Basic graphic design
- Social content creation experience
- Agency experience
- Any leadership or team-lead experience
Who Thrives Here
This role is perfect for someone who is:
- Ambitious and wants to keep getting better
- Creative and curious — always finding inspiration and wanting to try new things
- Organized and reliable
- Able to work independently without needing constant reminders
- Hungry to grow into a Creative Lead or Producer role
- Comfortable serving a wide variety of clients with different perspectives
- Looking for long-term stability, not freelance chaos
Dealbreakers:
Low initiative, disorganization, lack of communication, ego, chronic forgetfulness, or people who need to be told exactly what to do every day.
Work Schedule
- Hybrid (work from home + on set + occasional meetings/work days in Aurora)
- Generally consistent weekday hours
- Some nights/weekends depending on production days
- 6–10 short trips per year (travel expenses covered)
Compensation & Benefits
- $52,000–$62,000 annual equivalent ($25–$30/hr based on experience)
- Paid hourly
- Flexible scheduling when possible
- Opportunities for raises, commissions on clients, and long-term growth
- No current health insurance or retirement plan (we want to be transparent)
- Company-provided video gear + workstation for full-time employees
How to Apply
Please submit:
- Resume
- Portfolio or Video Reel (required) — links preferred
- Applicant Task:
- Share three video links to projects you personally shot and edited
- Include 2–3 sentences for each explaining what you did and why you’re proud of it
Applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
