Virtual Educators - K-12 All core and electives needed

Who We Are Hiring
Kindred Scholars Academy is hiring K–12 educators across core subjects and electives for our virtual microschool.

We are seeking educators who have strong subject knowledge and experience working with learners and who are comfortable teaching in an engaging, discussion-based virtual environment.

Subjects we hire for include both core academics and electives, such as:

Core Subjects: K-12

  • math
  • language arts and writing
  • reading and literacy
  • science
  • social studies and history

Electives and Specialty Subjects

  • art and creative subjects
  • coding and technology
  • personal development and life skills
  • entrepreneurship and financial literacy
  • logic and critical thinking
  • study skills and executive functioning
  • career exploration
  • other unique academic or enrichment topics

Applicants must have strong familiarity with the subject they wish to teach.

Applicants without clear subject knowledge or teaching experience are not a good fit.

This is a 1099 contractor role
Compensation is for live teaching time only

Prep time, grading, weekly written feedback, and communication are not separately paid.

Pay is based on enrollment, not experience.

Educators must be comfortable teaching very small classes, including single learners.

Applicants seeking hourly pay for preparation or guaranteed class sizes may find this role is not the right fit.

Teaching Format & Expectations

Most classes:

  • meet once or twice per week
  • meet primarily weekdays 9am to 5pm Eastern
  • weeknights and weekends do have a need, but the greatest need is weekdays
  • run 30 - 45 minutes per session
  • include no more than 10 learners

Classes must be interactive and discussion-based.

Every class must include an interactive learning activity using one of the following tools:

  • Kahoot
  • Blooket
  • Gimkit
  • Jeopardy-style review games

These tools must be used in every class to reinforce learning and maintain student engagement.

Interactive activities should be integrated into the lesson and support the learning objective of the class.

Single-Learner Classes

Educators must be prepared to teach classes with any enrollment size, including single-learner classes.

These sessions are still treated as group classes and are compensated at the single-learner rate listed in the pay structure.

Single-learner classes cannot be converted into private tutoring, and educators may not ask families to move to other classes or request schedule changes due to enrollment size.

Responsibilities

  • lead engaging virtual classes in the subject area(s) you are hired to teach
  • facilitate discussion and student participation
  • incorporate Kahoot, Blooket, Gimkit, or Jeopardy-style activities in every class
  • provide weekly written learner feedback after sessions
  • submit progress reports and grades when required
  • communicate professionally and within 24 hours with families and admin
  • follow lesson plans and curriculum provided by Kindred Scholars Academy

Qualifications

Applicants should have experience in the subject area they wish to teach, such as:

  • teaching experience
  • tutoring experience
  • a degree in the subject area
  • professional experience related to the subject
  • strong demonstrated knowledge of the subject

Applicants must also:

  • live in the United States
  • be eligible to work as a 1099 contractor
  • be comfortable teaching online

Compensation & Pay Structure

This is a 1099 contractor position.

Educators are paid per 30-minute class session based on enrollment.

Per 30-minute session:

1 learner – $10
2 learners – $15
3 learners – $20
4 learners – $25
5 learners – $30
6 learners – $35
7 learners – $40
8 learners – $45
9 learners – $50
10 learners – $55

Important notes:

  • Pay is for live teaching time only
  • Prep time is not separately compensated
  • Feedback, grading, progress reports, and communication are part of the role
  • Rates are based on enrollment and are non-negotiable
  • Educators are expected to deliver the same quality instruction regardless of class size

Hiring Process

Step 1 – Application Review
Applications are reviewed carefully. Incomplete applications will not move forward.

Step 2 – Video Introduction
Selected applicants will be invited to submit a short video introduction.

Step 3 – First Interview
Candidates who move forward will attend an interview to discuss the role and expectations.

Step 4 – Role Overview Meeting
A second meeting reviews what the job looks like in practice, including class structure, expectations, and communication.

Step 5 – Mock Class with Live Student
Candidates teach a short mock class with a live learner.

The mock class must include an interactive activity using:

  • Kahoot
  • Blooket
  • Gimkit
  • or a Jeopardy-style game

Candidates will also submit an example of written learner feedback.

Step 6 – Expectations & Q&A Meeting
Candidates who pass the mock class attend a final meeting reviewing expectations and answering questions.

Step 7 – Onboarding
Includes background check, contract signing, and platform setup.

Step 8 – Initial Teaching Phase
New educators begin with one class only so expectations can be confirmed.

Once the educator demonstrates strong alignment with the teaching model, additional classes are gradually added.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $20.00 - $110.00 per hour

Are you comfortable incorporating interactive tools in every class?

  • Educators are expected to respond to parent and admin messages within 24 hours during the work week.

Are you able to maintain this level of communication?

  • This role requires educators to be self-starters who carefully read instructions and locate information independently (such as class schedules, lesson plans, and internal documents).

Are you comfortable working in an environment where you are expected to find and follow instructions independently?

  • Educators are responsible for checking internal systems to confirm:
  • which classes they are teaching
  • lesson plans and materials
  • class schedules and updates

Are you comfortable managing these responsibilities independently?

  • Do you understand that this role is paid only for live teaching time and that preparation, grading, feedback, and communication are not separately compensated?
  • Are you comfortable with our firm, non-negotiable pay structure?

Project-based pay is determined by class size for each 30-minute session. Classes run even if only one learner is enrolled, and class sizes may vary from week to week.

Group Class Rates (30-minute sessions):

$10 for 1 learner (equivalent to $20/hour)

$15 for 2 learners

$20 for 3 learners

$25 for 4 learners

$30 for 5 learners

$35 for 6 learners

$40 for 7 learners

$45 for 8 learners

$50 for 9 learners

$55 for 10 learners

45 minute sessions are $5 more

1:1 Rates:

$20 for 30 minutes

$40 for 60 minutes

All educators are also responsible for posting homework and submitting progress reports. We offer resources to help streamline these tasks.

Do you understand that pay is based on class enrollment, not experience or credentials?

  • Some assignments will be completed in Google Docs, and educators will be expected to review and provide detailed comments and corrections directly in the document.

Are you comfortable reviewing and commenting on student work in Google Docs within 48 hours of their submission?

  • Please confirm that you have read the entire job description and understand the expectations described.
  • We only hire teachers that can teach a wide range of subjects - core and electives and are available for at least 10 hours each week. What subjects can you teach and how many hours between 9am and 9pm eastern can you commit to. We do have classes on weekends as well if you are interested.
