Action Inc. advances economic equity and strengthens communities on Cape Ann through housing support, fuel assistance, energy conservation, and education programs. Our Energy Services Program helps residents' lower energy costs at no cost to them through assessments, weatherization, heating system upgrades, and energy-efficient improvements.
Volunteer Overview
Action Inc. is seeking writing volunteers to support our Adult Education students. The primary focus would be helping one or more students learn the skills to write a standard five paragraph essay. Action's Adult Education program serves students from diverse backgrounds who are hoping to achieve their High School Equivalency (HISET/ GED).
Duties/Responsibilities

Meet 1:1 with a student a minimum of once a week for an hour. In-person instruction preferred.

Teach best-practices for writing a standard five-paragraph persuasive essay.

Act in the best interest of Action Inc., reflecting the values of teamwork, collaboration, and mutual respect.
Required Abilities/Skills

Foundational understanding of teaching and writing best-practices including organization of ideas, main ideas, transitions, varied sentence structure, and introductory, supporting, and concluding paragraphs.

Experience with diverse populations

Ability to treat students with empathy and respect

Ability to comply with and successfully complete a CORI background check before the start of volunteering
