Warehouse Manager

Warehouse Manager

Function:
The Warehouse Manager is responsible for overall planning, coordination, execution, and performance of warehouse, inventory, and shipping operations, including receiving, storage, material handling, inventory accuracy, and outbound order fulfillment. This role ensures raw materials, components, and finished goods are available, accurate, and delivered in alignment with production schedules and customer requirements. The Warehouse Manager provides leadership through a supervisory ownership model, where supervisors own day-to-day execution while the Warehouse Manager retains accountability for prioritization, alignment, performance, and process design. This role operates as a peer to the Production Manager and collaborates closely with Production, Quality, Process Engineering, and Maintenance leadership to support safe, efficient, and compliant end-to-end material and order flow. The Warehouse Manager is also responsible for designing, improving, and sustaining efficient fulfillment processes supporting Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) and Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM) channels. This includes improving order flow, forecast alignment, inventory positioning, and fulfillment execution to increase order fill rates, reduce errors, and improve overall service levels. The Warehouse Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • This position supervises Shipping Supervisor and Warehouse/Inventory Supervisor.
  • This position provides indirect leadership to Warehouse Associates, Inventory Control Personnel, Receiving Clerks, and Shipping Staff through the supervisory structure.
Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:
  • Warehouse, Inventory, & Shipping Leadership
    • Provide overall leadership and accountability for warehouse, inventory control, and shipping operations.
    • Establish priorities and expectations to ensure material flow supports production requirements and customer commitments.
    • Ensure warehouse and shipping activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervisory Ownership Model (Execution vs. Accountability)
    • Assign day-to-day execution ownership to the Shipping Supervisor and Warehouse/Inventory Supervisor, including labor management, task execution, and adherence to standard work.
    • Provide direction to the supervisors on priorities, sequencing, and resource allocation based on business needs and production schedules.
    • Review performance, constraints, and risks; make final decisions on escalation, trade‑offs, and prioritization impacting production support and order fulfillment.
  • Inventory Control & Material Availability
    • Ensure accuracy and integrity of inventory through cycle counts, reconciliations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
    • Ensure raw materials, components, and finished goods are available and properly staged to support the Production Manager–approved production schedule.
    • Partner with Production and Planning to anticipate material constraints and proactively resolve gaps.
  • Shipping & Distribution Operations
    • Ensure outbound shipments are executed accurately and on time, meeting OTD and OTIF targets for retail, wholesale, and e‑commerce customers.
    • Oversee shipping priorities, carrier coordination, documentation accuracy, and compliance through the Shipping Supervisor.
    • Review shipping performance and lead corrective actions for missed, delayed, or incorrect shipments.
  • FBA / FBM Fulfillment & Order Flow Optimization
    • Own the design and continuous improvement of FBA and FBM fulfillment process flows, from order receipt through pick, pack, stage, and shipment.
    • Lead initiatives to improve order fill rates, fulfillment cycle time, and forecast to ship execution across all fulfillment channels.
    • Partner with Production, Planning, and Sales/Customer Rep teams to translate demand and order forecasts into executable warehouse and shipping plans.
    • Improve inventory positioning, replenishment timing, and staging strategies to support higher fulfillment efficiency and service levels.
    • Identify constraints and inefficiencies in FBA and FBM execution and implement sustainable process improvements.
    • Review fulfillment of KPIs such as fill rate, shipment accuracy, backlog, and cycle time; drive corrective actions and continuous improvement based on review.
    • Coordinate with the Shipping Supervisor to execute improvements while maintaining clear supervisory ownership of daily fulfillment activities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work as a peer partner with the Production Manager to align material flow, finished goods availability, and shipment timing with production priorities.
    • Collaborate with the Quality Manager to ensure proper material status control, segregation, traceability, and disposition of non‑conforming materials.
    • Partner with the Process Engineering Manager to improve material handling design, layout optimization, and end-to-end flow efficiency.
    • Coordinate with Maintenance to ensure material handling equipment readiness and safe operation.
  • Safety, Quality & Compliance
    • Promote and enforce safe work practices across warehouse and shipping operations.
    • Ensure compliance with GMP, storage, labeling, traceability, and handling requirements.
    • Support audits, inspections, and corrective actions related to warehouse, inventory, and shipping activities.
  • Performance Management & Continuous Improvement
    • Monitor and review KPIs related to inventory accuracy, order fill rate, on time delivery, labor efficiency, space utilization, and material flow.
    • Identify and implement improvement initiatives to reduce errors, improve service levels, and optimize warehouse and fulfillment operations.
    • Drive standardization and continuous improvement across warehouse and shipping teams.
  • People Leadership & Development
    • Lead, coach, and develop Warehouse and Shipping Supervisors.
    • Support hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and corrective actions in coordination with Human Resources.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Decision-Making Authority:
The Warehouse Manager is the single point of accountability for:
  • Warehouse and Shipping priorities
  • Inventory control strategy and escalation decisions
  • Material staging and availability decisions supporting production
  • FBA and FBM fulfillment process design and improvement
  • Order fulfillment prioritization and recovery plans
Requirements:
  • 7+ years’ experience in warehousing, receiving, inventory control, or material management in a manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 4 years of supervisory experience
  • Strong knowledge of shipping, receiving, warehouse, and material handling operations, methods, and best practices
  • Ability to develop personnel and equipment structures to support present and future operations

  • Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Word, Excel, EDI and ERP system software
  • Must possess the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of shipping and receiving software a plus
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Progressive leadership experience in warehousing, shipping, inventory management, and fulfillment within a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Experience supporting e‑commerce or multi‑channel fulfillment (FBA / FBM preferred).
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and warehouse/fulfillment best practices.
  • Knowledge of GMP and regulated material handling environments preferred.
Certificates:
  • Lean Manufacturing certificate a plus

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand for extended periods of the day; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
