Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections and maintenance services, including water tests and analysis, preventive and corrective maintenance in a related field.
• Record accurate data of activities by completing ALSS checklists and other required documents.
• Assist in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining ALSS equipment and facilities.
• Operate the Life Support System in accordance with ALSS SOP and manual.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of all chemical drums, storage areas, and workstations.
• Utilize safe handling, usage, storage, and disposal practices for chemicals, toxic substances, and hazardous waste, following Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and ALSS SOPs.
• Maintain tools, parts, materials, and equipment inventory; report any missing items and request replenishments.
• Complete all required trainings; maintain professional development and competencies.
• Perform other duties as directed by the ALSS leadership team.

Technical Scope - Pump Mechanic

• Assist in inspections, diagnoses, and major/minor repairs on all ALSS pumps, motors, hydraulic equipment, compressors, controls, valves, and related equipment.
• Assist in various analyses and inspections of mechanical systems to determine the most cost effective maintenance, repair, or replacement strategies.
• Ensure the continuous operation of all saltwater, freshwater, and water treatment systems.

Technical Scope - Filtration Mechanic

• Assist in troubleshooting and repairing critical animal life support equipment, filtration systems, valves, heat exchangers, pumps, motors, fractionators, ozone systems, UV sterilizers, and seawater lines.
• Perform routine maintenance on ALSS systems and equipment, including mechanical preventive maintenance, raw seawater line pigging, and valve maintenance.
• Assist in draining, filling, and isolating all habitats, holding pools, decorative pools, and waterfalls.

Job Essentials

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in Aquatic Life Support Systems, Wastewater Treatment, or Recreational Swimming Pool setting.
• Basic English communication skills, written and verbal.
• Basic knowledge of mathematical applications.
• Working knowledge of basic hand tools and measuring devices in a related field.
• Basic mechanical/technical troubleshooting skills.

Pump Mechanic

• Basic understanding of diagnosing and repairing a variety of pump problems, from primary issues and cavitation to excessive vibration.
• Basic understanding of interpreting pump curves.
• Basic mechanical/technical knowledge in ALSS, public pools, or wastewater treatment.
• Basic working knowledge of mechanics; motors, hydraulics, centrifugal and vertical pumps, compressors, and liquid metering pumps.

Filtration Mechanic

• Basic understanding of interpreting PID layout of systems and pipe installation.
• Basic understanding of mechanical, chemical, and biological filtration as it applies to animal life support systems.
• Basic working knowledge of operating, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing various types of small pumps and related equipment.
• Basic working knowledge of automated controls, pneumatics, electro mechanical devices.
