What You’ll Do
As a Weatherization Specialist 1, you’ll work with a crew to fix up homes so they use less energy. Most of the work involves basic construction, insulation, and installing energy-saving equipment.
Job Duties
Start of the Day (Shop):
- Be at the shop by 7:30 a.m. (Mon–Fri, some Saturdays may be offered)
- Wear clean work clothes
- Check in with your Crew Lead for the day’s plan
- Load the truck with tools, equipment, and supplies
On the Jobsite:
- Follow directions from the Crew Lead
- Protect the customer’s home (boot covers, drop cloths, plastic sheeting)
- Stay alert to safety hazards (wires, gas lines, low ceilings, etc.)
- Always wear the right safety gear (PPE)
- Work with your crew to install energy-saving upgrades, such as:
- Blown-in and dense-packed insulation (using a Krendl machine)
- Weatherstripping and door sweeps
- Drywall patching and finishing
- Sealing air leaks with spray foam or foam board
- Installing/venting kitchen and bathroom fans
- Laying fiberglass insulation in basements, crawlspaces, and ceilings
- Replacing hot water heaters (standard and hybrid)
- Installing light fixtures, switches, and outlets
- Running electrical wire and connecting thermostats
- Installing baseboard heaters, dryer vents, and ductwork
- Adding roof vents and sealing around doors/windows
- Insulating pipes and boiler lines
- Performing blower door tests and recording results
- Keep the jobsite neat and clean
- Take photos of work and complete paperwork as needed
End of the Day (Shop):
- Unload trucks and return tools/supplies to their place
- Clean vehicles, tools, and shop area
- Dispose of trash and recycle materials properly
- Get tools/supplies ready for the next day
- Check out with your Crew Lead or Manager before leaving
What We’re Looking For
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to/from the shop
- Cell phone with data plan
- Shows up on time every day and ready to work
- Willing to learn new skills and trades
- Works well with others and treats customers with respect
- Can handle year-round work, indoors and outdoors, in all weather
- Able to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, crawl in tight spaces, and work on roofs
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools (hammer, drill, saw, nail gun, etc.)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
