As the Web Editor, this editorial position provides writing and editing services to advance the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency’s communications goals and strategies. The position is responsible for planning, writing, editing, and publishing content for the agency’s external websites and will support content development for email, documents and reports, and other projects. This position will lead the editorial planning team to ensure consistency and coordination among earned, owned, and paid media. As lead writer and editor for web content, this position coordinates with communications teammates and internal partners to ensure web copy is accurate, engaging, and written for web audiences. In supporting agency-wide use of mass email, this individual advises on list management distribution strategies. The position is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the agency’s style guide and working with internal audiences to ensure adherence through proofreading services and advisement.
Candidates must clearly demonstrate the following qualifications:
Three (3) years of professional experience in strategic communications.
Advanced understanding of Drupal web content management system (CMS) and ability to manage and develop major content areas on the web site using analytics.
Advanced knowledge of journalistic principles, practices, and techniques as related to the planning, composing and editing of various publications.
Demonstrated skills in writing and editing, including the ability to translate technical, scientific, bureaucratic and legal language into clear, understandable plain language.
Experience using an array of web-based and social media tools.
Experience in interpersonal communication tactics, including conflict resolution and consensus building activities.
Human relations and communication skills sufficient to collaborate, work effectively, and create understanding within a wide range of clientele, partners, and interested parties.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will not sponsor applicants for work visas including F-1 STEM OPT extensions. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Strong project management skills to include developing and implementing effective communications plans.
Ability to meet tight timetables and deadlines.
Experience organizing and executing public events and activities with multiple stakeholders and deliverables.
Demonstrated success building relationships with media representing diverse and underrepresented groups.
Strong knowledge of political process and/or experience working in a political environment.
Understanding of risk communication and crisis communication strategies.
Ability to consult with programs and identify which, among a broad range of communication strategies, would best suit the program’s needs.
Position duties may require travel but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position. Employees who may drive for state business will need their driver’s license checked prior to operating a state vehicle.
