Position Summary
The Webmaster oversees the design, functionality, and content integrity of Harris-Stowe State University’s website and related digital platforms. This part-time role ensures that the university’s online presence is accessible, visually consistent, and aligned with institutional branding, communication, and security standards. The Webmaster collaborates with departments to update content, optimize usability, and support digital engagement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Website Administration & Maintenance

Manage day-to-day updates, content posting, and performance monitoring of the university website.

Ensure web pages meet accessibility (WCAG) and responsive-design standards.

Conduct regular site audits for broken links, outdated content, and technical issues.

Coordinate with IT staff to implement CMS updates, plugin management, and security patches.
Design & Content Management

Maintain consistent branding, layout, and visual design across all university web pages.

Partner with Marketing and Communications to ensure accurate and timely information.

Support departments with content updates, image optimization, and proper document posting.

Review and format web content for readability, ADA compliance, and search engine visibility.
Technical & Security Support

Monitor website uptime, backups, and load performance.

Work with IT security staff to maintain SSL certificates and data privacy compliance.

Troubleshoot web errors, configuration issues, and access permissions.
Analytics & Optimization

Use Google Analytics or similar tools to track site traffic, engagement, and user behavior.

Recommend improvements to enhance user experience and navigation flow.

Support initiatives related to SEO, digital marketing campaigns, and online forms.
Collaboration & Support

Serve as a point of contact for university departments regarding web requests and best practices.

Provide brief training or documentation for departmental content editors.

Coordinate with vendors or hosting partners as needed for maintenance and enhancements.
Qualifications
Required:

Associate’s degree in web design, Computer Science, Digital Media, or related field, OR equivalent experience.

2+ years of experience managing or maintaining websites using a CMS (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, Joomla).

Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and basic web scripting languages.

Familiarity with accessibility (ADA/WCAG) standards and responsive design.

Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
Preferred:

Experience working in higher education or public-sector environments.
