The Rig Welder is responsible for performing field welding and fabrication using personally owned welding equipment (rig truck) in support of plant maintenance, turnarounds, and capital projects. This position plays a critical role in ensuring piping systems, pressure equipment, and structural components are installed and repaired safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes and company standards.
Key Responsibilities

Perform field welding of piping, pressure vessels, and structural components using rig-mounted equipment

Weld various materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, and specialty alloys

Read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, fabrication drawings, and weld procedures

Set up and operate welding rigs, including generators, leads, torches, and support tools

Perform pipe fitting, alignment, and tack welding in preparation for final welds

Conduct quality checks and support NDE (e.g., X-ray, hydrotesting) requirements

Troubleshoot and repair piping systems and equipment in the field

Support turnarounds, outages, and construction projects

Maintain welding equipment and ensure safe operation of rig and tools

Work collaboratively with pipefitters, boilermakers, and other crafts to complete scopes efficiently

Follow all plant safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and PSM requirements
Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required
-
4+ years of industrial welding experience (chemical, petrochemical, or refinery preferred)

Valid welding certifications (AWS and/or ASME Section IX qualified)

Demonstrated experience with field / rig welding in an industrial environment

Ability to pass weld qualification tests

Valid driver’s license required; TWIC preferred
