KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Lead efforts to apply the API 650 standard in designing, fabricating, and inspecting welded steel storage tanks.

Ensure compliance with relevant welding codes including ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, and other pertinent industry standards.

Apply a variety of welding techniques such as SMAW, GMAW, TIG, and SAW, adjusting methods based on material type, thickness, and tank design.

Select appropriate welding materials and consumables (electrodes, filler rods, fluxes) for tanks, ensuring their suitability for carbon steel, stainless steel, and other materials.

Identify and resolve welding defects such as cracks, porosity, misalignment, and undercuts, leveraging deep experience in troubleshooting and corrective actions.

Oversee the welding process, ensuring compliance with quality standards and addressing any non-conformances promptly.

Ensure all welders are qualified in accordance with ASME Section IX and track their qualification status.

Monitor welder performance regularly, ensuring that welding processes meet high standards and approved procedures.

Work with NDT teams to perform regular inspections and confirm that welded joints meet the required standards.

Conduct internal audits and inspections to ensure welding quality and review inspection reports.

Maintain accurate documentation for welding procedures and welding inspections.

Ensure welding activities comply with the latest revisions of relevant codes (API 650, ASME Section IX) and industry best practices.

Lead and mentor a team of welders and junior engineers, ensuring that the team follows best practices and maintains high-quality standards in tank welding.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

10+ years of experience in welding, specifically with welded steel storage tanks (API 650).

Knowledge of welding techniques such as SMAW, GMAW, TIG, and SAW, as well as material selection and consumables.

Advanced understanding of API 620, API 650, ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, and related standards.

Proven ability to troubleshoot welding defects and implement corrective measures effectively.

Demonstrated experience in ensuring welding quality through inspections, testing, and NDT coordination.
