Position Overview

The Welding Intern supports our welding and fabrication team on commercial construction projects throughout Colorado. This is a hands-on training opportunity designed for individuals pursuing a career in welding or skilled trades.

You will work alongside experienced welders and fabricators in both shop and field environments, gaining real world exposure to structural welding, fabrication, material preparation, and job site safety.

This is not a sit back and observe internship. You will actively contribute to projects and develop practical trade skills with mentorship from experienced professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist welders in preparing, positioning, and handling structural steel and specialty metal materials
  • Clean, grind, and prepare metal surfaces before and after welding
  • Assist with MIG, TIG, and Stick welding setup and material preparation
  • Measure, cut, and fit materials using hand and power tools
  • Read basic shop drawings and assist with layout work
  • Move and stage materials and equipment for active job sites
  • Maintain tools, welding machines, and work areas in safe operating condition
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and strictly follow OSHA and DCPS safety standards
  • Support welders, supervisors, and project managers with field and shop tasks

Qualifications

Required

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a welding or technical training program or strong demonstrated interest in the welding trade
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate basic hand and power tools
  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately
  • Ability to lift 50 plus pounds and work in physically demanding environments
  • Willingness to work indoors and outdoors in varying Colorado weather conditions
  • Reliable transportation
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and willingness to learn

Preferred

  • OSHA 10 certification
  • Previous welding, shop, or construction experience
  • Basic blueprint reading skills

Work Environment

  • Job sites throughout Colorado and travel may be required
  • Indoor shop and outdoor field environments
  • Exposure to heat, cold, noise, and construction conditions
  • PPE required and provided in accordance with safety standards

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly Pay $18.00 to $22.00 per hour based on experience
