About WhatNewYorkDoes:
Created by Rick McGuire, founder of SubwayCreatures and WhatIsNewYork, WhatNewYorkDoes is a new social media page that highlights the wide variety of events that New York City hosts, including, but not limited to, events related to music, sports, fashion, food, etc. The goal of WhatNewYorkDoes is to cover events both large and small, share ways for New Yorkers and tourists to save money when attending events, and provide information for New Yorkers to find activities and events related to their points of interest.
Job Description:
We are seeking an intern to help grow the WhatNewYorkDoes account in various ways including, but not limited to:
- Creating content segments to retain and grow the WhatNewYorkDoes audience.
- Researching events of different types happening in New York City and sharing the information with the audience prior to the events taking place.
- Attending various events to provide coverage and create content based on the experiences.
- Coordinating a content sharing schedule that allows for multiple posts per week, including visuals (Instagram Reels and TikTok-style content) and graphics (including slides to be shared as carousel posts on Instagram.
Responsibilities:
● Assist in creating and coordinating consistent social media content across various platforms, including Instagram and TikTok.
● Develop new segments that encapsulate the New York City social scene, in order to create a strong brand voice for WhatNewYorkDoes.
● Interact with our audience by commenting, liking, hearting, and sharing Instagram stories.
● Stay up-to-date on social media trends and best practices to incorporate into the brand.
● Collaborate with the team to brainstorm and develop new social media campaigns and
Initiatives.
Qualifications:
● Pursuing a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field
● Strong sense of creativity and strong written and verbal communication skills
● Passion for attending a variety of social events/pop-ups throughout New York City
● Familiarity with major social media platforms (Instagram and TikTok)
● Detail-oriented and able to multitask effectively
● Ability to be present for in-person events as needed
● Basic knowledge of graphic design principles and ability to create visually appealing
social media posts using Canva or Photoshop

● Job Location: This role offers flexibility, with certain aspects requiring in-person presence in the NYC-area, and other aspects capable of being completed remotely.
