GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


The Office of State Lands and Investments, Wyoming State Forestry Division, seeks a Wildland Fire Suppression Module Leader in Douglas, Wyoming. Bring your knowledge, skills, and career with you to become a part of the Wyoming State Forestry Division.

This position is assigned to provide day-to-day leadership and management of crew members and programs. It is their responsibility to keep the unit supervisor informed of all aspects related to public safety and effective operations and program administration.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Responsible for directing and supervising 10-person wildland suppression module.
  • Ensure that the module achieves assignments provided by the incident command organization.
  • Manages module’s schedule for fuels mitigation project work.
  • Evaluates crew performance, during fire assignments, fuels mitigation project work, and yearly performance evaluations.
  • Provide nationally recognized training to module to maintain currency and to promote module development.
  • Maintain module experience and training records.
  • Maintain equipment inventories and adequate supplies.
  • Evaluates fire situations; determine suppression methods to use, deployment of module/crew, type of tools, and equipment to use and application of water.
  • Directs firefighters in the use of a variety of specialized wildland fire tools and equipment; performing prescribed burning; leading the operation of a wildland fire engine or suppression efforts of a suppression module.
  • May be responsible for estimating and reporting wildfire costs and administration of regional-level fire programs.

Qualifications



PREFERENCES:

Fireline qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of wildland fire management experience

  • National Wildland Coordination Group (NWCG) PMS 310.1 qualifications; Incident Commander Type 4 (ICT4) or 5 (ICT5), Single Resource Boss [one of the following; Engine Boss (ENGB), or Crew Boss (CRWB)]


KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of State of Wyoming, Office of State Lands and Investments procedures and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of wildland fire management and forestry management methods, operation practices and techniques.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Fire Science or Forestry)

Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Wildland Fire Management or Forestry)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Must possess and maintain national certification in accordance with NWCG standards, PMS 310-1, within one (1) year of the date of hire

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:
3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Wildland Fire Management or Forestry)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Must possess and maintain national certification in accordance with NWCG standards, PMS 310-1, within one (1) year of the date of hire

Necessary Special Requirements



PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Performs arduous physical activity for extended periods, and maintains required NWCG 310-1 physical fitness certification
