Position Overview

A Finishing Spray Painter is responsible for applying high-quality finishes to wooden surfaces using spray equipment. The role includes surface preparation, color mixing, and application of paint, stain, sealer, lacquer, and PU finishes to ensure smooth, consistent, and durable results. Precision, craftsmanship, and knowledge of finishing materials are essential.

Key Responsibilities

1. Surface Preparation

  • Sand, smooth, and clean wooden surfaces before painting.
  • Fill cracks, nail holes, and imperfections using fillers or putty.
  • Ensure all surfaces are dust-free and properly prepared for finishing.
  • Mask or cover areas not to be painted.

2. Spraying & Finishing Work

  • Apply primers, stains, sealers, PU paint, PU clear, lacquer, and other wood coatings using spray guns.
  • Perform color mixing, tinting, and matching as per project requirements.
  • Ensure even coating thickness and a flawless final finish.
  • Conduct polishing and buffing after finishing when required.

3. Equipment Handling

  • Operate and maintain spray guns, compressors, and finishing tools.
  • Clean and service equipment to prevent clogging and ensure optimum performance.
  • Adjust spray gun settings for optimal coverage and finish quality.

4. Quality Control

  • Inspect completed items to ensure color accuracy, gloss level, and touch-free surface quality.
  • Identify defects such as runs, drips, dust particles, orange peel, or color mismatch and correct them.
  • Ensure finishing meets project and client standards.

5. Workshop & Site Duties

  • Work closely with carpenters, supervisors, and production teams.
  • Handle finishing works both in the workshop and at site installation areas.
  • Follow job schedules and meet project deadlines.

6. Safety & Housekeeping

  • Follow HSE rules for handling chemicals, paints, and thinners.
  • Wear PPE such as masks, gloves, and goggles during spraying.
  • Ensure proper ventilation in spray areas.
  • Keep the workspace organized and safe.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in wood finishing spray painting.
  • Knowledge of PU finishes, lacquer, stain, sealer, and wood coating systems.
  • Strong understanding of sanding, surface prep, and finishing techniques.
  • Ability to mix colors accurately and follow recipes.
  • Skilled in using spray guns, compressors, and polishing tools.
  • Ability to detect defects and apply corrective actions.
  • Good physical stamina and attention to detail.
