Full Time / Part Time Full Time Job Type Staff Reports To Director of the Academic Center for Excellence Position Summary
This position reports to the Coordinator of Writing Center Services and is responsible to assist students with the development of their writing skills and is also responsible to teach one section of Writing Workshop course (GEN 106) in each of the fall and spring semesters during the academic year. (This is a 9-month position, requiring some late afternoon and evening hours.)
Academic Success Programs: The Specialist participates in the delivery of programs and services which increase retention with an emphasis on writing skills, including:
- Provide support to students with the development and enhancement of writing skills, both one-on-one and in group settings.
- Present workshops on writing process topics.
- Work with and assist with training student peer writing consultants.
- Assist in the development of Writing Center support materials and contributing to Writing Center publications when appropriate.
- Make recommendations to enhance the Center’s services.
Writing Workshop (GEN 106) Instructor: Serve as an instructor for Writing Workshop (GEN 106), an intensive writing course which strengthens students’ mastery of written communications. As an instructor, the incumbent is responsible to facilitate student learning and engagement through preparing and delivering lectures or discussions, and creating course materials; designing assignments, exams and projects, evaluating student work and providing feedback; maintaining accurate grading records; and providing academic advising and mentorship for students.

Principal Accountabilities
- Assist the Coordinator with the development and administration of the Writing Center which assists students, faculty, and staff in the development of effective writing skills.
- Promote Writing Center services throughout the Bryant Community through classroom visits, newsletters, etc.
- Maintain a caseload of individual students to assess specific needs and identify techniques or services to assist students with academic skills, metacognitive processes, self-regulation of learning process, and monitoring academic progress of at-risk students.
- Provide support for writing related faculty and staff development events and programs. ie. Writer’s Retreat, Course Redesign Retreat.
- Serve as an instructor for two sections of Writing Workshop (GEN 106) and collaborate with other Writing 106 faculty and coordinator to formalize relationships with ACE and the Writing Center.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
This position requires a Master’s degree in English, Composition or a related field; and professional writing center experience tutoring and teaching college-level students. Strong advising and interpersonal skills are required to establish effective working relationships with students, faculty and other campus resources.
