Yellow Iron - Heavy Equipment Manager

Overview
We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Yellow Iron Heavy Equipment Mechanic specializing in Yellow Iron equipment. This person would be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction equipment (commonly referred to as “yellow iron”), including loaders, excavators, bulldozers, grinders, and other diesel-powered machinery. This role ensures equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and preventative service on heavy equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and experience
  • Repair or replace defective components such as engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and braking systems
  • Conduct inspections to identify potential failures and ensure operational safety
  • Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, and parts usage documentation
  • Operate equipment for testing and troubleshooting purposes
  • Follow all safety protocols and OSHA regulations
  • Coordinate with parts department to ensure timely availability of required components
  • Respond to field service calls and perform on-site repairs when necessary
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (technical school or certification preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience working on heavy equipment or diesel mechanics
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and electrical systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with brands such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, Volvo, John Deere, etc.
  • Welding and fabrication experience

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50+ lbs
  • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions

Work Environment

  • Shop and field-based work environment
  • Exposure to noise, dust, grease, and heavy machinery

Pay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour
