Telecommunicators perform responsible communications, dispatching, and related work for the Montgomery County Emergency Communications Center. This position is responsible for answering emergency and non-emergency radio and telephone calls; dispatching appropriate emergency service agency/agencies; successfully operate EWarrants, Computer Aided Dispatch system (CAD), Department of Criminal Justice Information (DCI) terminal, and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database; provides information/support to emergency personnel and maintains related records and logs. This position works under general supervision according to established written procedures.This is a position for individuals with limited or no prior experience but are capable and committed to learning how to become a 911 Emergency Telecommunicator.Qualified applicants will be invited to observe for at least two hours in the 911 Communications Room after signing a confidential agreement. Only a select few will be interviewed and participate in further testing.Those that are offered a position as a trainee will have the opportunity to complete an intensive 12 week training program which includes attending 1-week classroom to introduce basic call-taking and radio-dispatch related to Montgomery County, Emergency Medical Dispatch certification (four day class), DCI module one certification (three day class), and passing the Public Safety Telecommunicator course (online 4 weeks). Failure to obtain the required certifications or pass required course will result in dismissal.Once you pass the initial 1-week class introducing all the basics you will begin training on the floor of 911 Communications. This position has a 12-hour schedule that is either 5:45 am to 5:45 pm OR 5:45 pm-5:45 am. Typical schedules include 7 shifts in a two-week period (3 days one week and 4 days the next week). Time over 40 hours per week is paid at time and one half. Those in training will have a varied schedule. Successful completion of training results in promotion to Telecommunicator l with a starting salary of $42,481.20.
