Position Summary
The Academic Advisor I/II at the School of Professional Studies participates in the planning and delivery of academic advising and counseling services, as well as programs that promote comprehensive educational opportunities for all students. The Academic Advisor I/II reports to the Associate Director of Tutoring and Advising Services.

Note that assigned level (I/II) will be based on qualifications of finalist.

The School of Professional Studies (SPS) is an adult-learner centered program that offers certificates, associates, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees 100% online.

Description of Job Duties
  • Evaluate and develop degree plan for students.
  • Evaluate and articulate on acceptance of transfer credits; enter acceptable credits into the main University database.
  • Register students.
  • Maintain and update student records.
  • Assist in development of a schedule.
  • Update student records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Note that Level II has additional responsibilities.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency with various Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Teams or similar.
  • Ability to effectively learn internal CRM applications.
  • Must have strong communication, organization and verbal skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be multi-tasked and detail oriented.
  • Good customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree.

Required Work Experience
Advisor I: One (1) year of advising or counseling experience. Note that additional education will be considered in place of experience.

Advisor II:Three (3) years of experience in an academic advisory, administrative, or educational capacity with college students or adolescents in community youth groups.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Three years of advising or counseling experience.
  • Advising or counseling experience in an academic setting.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
None specified.

Work Hours
Mon through Fri 8am to 5pm with extended hours as needed to meet departmental goals to include weekends.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs for table set-up/tear-down at events.
  • Ability to actively engage in events for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to regularly move about campus and event venues to actively engage potential and current students, as well as attend meetings on and off campus.
