Account Manager Job Description
Summary: The Accountant is responsible for the integrity and accuracy of financial information, maintaining accounting records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. The role involves detailed record-keeping, financial analysis, and participation in the monthly and annual closing processes.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Financial Record-Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain the General Ledger (GL): Record all daily financial transactions, including purchases, sales, assets, liabilities, and capital accounts, by entering and analyzing account information.
- Reconcile Accounts: Perform timely and accurate reconciliation of bank statements, credit card accounts, and various ledger accounts to resolve discrepancies and ensure financial data integrity.
- Prepare Financial Statements: Compile and analyze account information to prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements (income statements), and cash flow statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) or IFRS.
- Month-End/Year-End Close: Manage and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes.
Compliance and Auditing:
- Tax Preparation: Compute taxes owed, prepare tax returns, and ensure that taxes are paid properly and on time, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation, analyzing records, and providing explanations for financial activity.
- Internal Controls: Develop, document, and recommend modifications to accounting policies and procedures to maintain and strengthen internal financial controls and safeguard assets.
Analysis and Budgeting:
- Financial Analysis: Analyze financial information and summarize the company's financial status by conducting variance analysis and identifying trends, risks, and areas for cost reduction or profit improvement.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist management with the preparation of departmental and organizational budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
- Financial Advisement: Provide technical support and advice to management on financial matters, helping them make critical decisions.
Transactional Duties (often for Staff Accountants):
- Process and manage Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) transactions, ensuring timely billing and payment of invoices.
- Oversee or assist with payroll processing and expense tracking.
- Manage fixed assets and inventory records.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Technical/Hard Skills:
- Accounting Principles: Deep, practical knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) or IFRS.
- Software Proficiency: Expert proficiency in financial software platforms and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, Xero).
- Advanced Excel: Mastery of spreadsheet software, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial modeling.
- Financial Reporting: Proven ability to prepare comprehensive, error-free financial statements and detailed reports.
- Tax Knowledge: Solid understanding of relevant tax laws and reporting requirements.

Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting,BCOM/MCOM/BAFT/CA Intern or Finance, or a related field is typically required.
- Experience: 1-5 years of experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role (required for Staff Accountant level).
