Summary:
JM Eagle is expanding. To support its newly formed logistics company, Ascending Eagle, we are looking to hire an Accounting Manager, who is excited by the opportunity to implement and work with new accounting systems and processes. The Accounting Manager will primarily function as the day-to-day lead accountant for Ascending Eagle, as well as support other finance and accounting functions for JM Eagle.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other job-related duties may be assigned.
- Lead the implementation of the accounting system (NetSuite) for Ascending Eagle. Leverage technology to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Design, create, and document accounting policies and standard operating procedures.
- Liaise and interface regularly with management and executive teams.
- Develop procedures and best business practices. Constantly and intuitively think about process improvements.
- Process and account for cash payments and receipts.
- Perform month-end closing.
- Perform cost analysis, identify and investigate irregularities/abnormalities and report to management.
- Prepare journal entries in accordance with GAAP and the accounting policies established by the companies.
- Prepare state and local tax compliance and handle tax audits.
- Perform account reconciliation to ensure balances are correct.
- Review accounts to understand and resolve unusual items and variances.
- Provide support and necessary documents for annual external audit.
- Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned, including ad hoc reports and analyses.
- Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practices in accounting.
Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Supervision of direct reports is not part of the role at this time. However, this may be required as the company and responsibilities grow.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting AND 4 to 6 years of full-time accounting experience including Accounting Manager level.
- Previous experience at public accounting firms required.
- Previous experience with NetSuite accounting software required.
- CPA designation highly preferred.
- Experience with system implementation and utilizing new technology to improve efficiency desired.
- Strong critical thinking skills and understanding of accounting concepts (e.g. debits and credits)
- Strong competency in writing memos and emails. Clear and on point communication.
- Minimum advance proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to quickly learn industry-related regulations and utilize information in written reports.
- Ability to prepare and deliver reports to management, both in writing and verbally.
- Focus and determination to solve problems creatively and does not give up – a “can do” attitude.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), CRM and have experience with other analytical software tools.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to resolve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished verbally or in written form. Strong problem solving and skills with ability to identify trends and develop action plans to address issues.
