JOB OPPORTUNITY

The City of Berkeley is hiring an Accounting Manager to lead our Finance Department's Accounting Division! In this role, you will direct divisional operations, mentor staff, and tackle complex financial analyses. You’ll be the architect of our Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) within a GASB-34 compliant environment, ensuring rigorous internal controls and providing expert guidance to executive and line staff alike. We are looking for a strategic thinker with high-level quantitative skills and the judgment to lead divisional objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, or a major in finance, business administration, systems development, economics, or a closely related field and at least satisfactory completion of a total of 12 units of accounting courses consisting of intermediate accounting, advanced accounting, and governmental accounting, and five (5) years of professional accounting experience including developing and implementing accounting systems, and at least two (2) years of supervising professional staff.

A Certified Public Accountant license is highly desirable.

EXAM PROCESS

The exam process will include, but may not be limited to:
  • Application review for minimum qualifications and required documents (qualifying experience will be calculated based on the application filing period close date)
  • Review of Supplemental Questionnaire
  • Oral Board Exam

Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.
