About Us
We are a growing Australian-centric accounting firm providing specialized bookkeeping, taxation, payroll, and advisory services to a diverse portfolio of SMEs across Australia. We pride ourselves on using a modern, cloud-based tech stack to deliver high-quality compliance and advisory support. We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Associate to join our team and act as a bridge between our trainees and senior management.
About the Role
As an Accounts Associate, you will take ownership of a dedicated client portfolio. You will move beyond basic data entry to handle complex reconciliations, BAS/IAS preparation, and end-to-end payroll. You will also play a pivotal role in mentoring our Accounts Trainees, ensuring that the foundational work meets the high standards required for Australian statutory reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Portfolio Management: Manage day-to-day bookkeeping for a suite of Australian clients, ensuring "real-time" data accuracy.
- BAS & Compliance: Prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Installment Activity Statements (IAS), ensuring correct GST, WET, or Luxury Car Tax treatment where applicable.
- Mentorship: Supervise and review the work of Accounts Trainees, providing technical guidance on Australian coding and compliance.
- Advanced Reconciliations: Perform complex balance sheet reconciliations, including inter-company accounts and loan accounts.
- AU Payroll & STP: Manage end-to-end payroll, ensuring compliance with Single Touch Payroll (STP) Phase 2, Superannuation Guarantee, and WorkCover requirements.
- Year-End Prep: Assist in preparing year-end workpapers and draft financial statements to a "Partner-ready" standard.
- Process Optimization: Identify and implement Xero apps or workflow automations (e.g., Dext, Hubdoc, or Ignition) to improve efficiency.
- Client Communication: Act as a primary point of contact for routine client queries regarding their accounts and ATO lodgment deadlines.
About You
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance; ACCA/CA/CPA (Qualified or Finalist).
- Experience: 1–2 years of experience in an accounting firm, specifically working on Australian client files.
- Technical Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Xero (Xero Advisor Certification is a major plus) and MS Excel.
- AU Knowledge: Solid understanding of the Australian Tax Office (ATO) compliance calendar, GST legislation, and the AU Financial Year (July–June).
- Leadership: Natural ability to mentor juniors and catch errors before they reach the manager level.
- Communication: High-level professional English, with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly to Australian business owners.
What We Offer
- Technical Growth: Direct exposure to complex Australian tax structures and advisory work.
- Leadership Path: A clear trajectory toward a Senior Associate or Assistant Manager role.
- Modern Environment: A firm that values automation and cloud-based efficiency over manual entry (Xero, Hubdoc, SuiteFiles).
- Work-Life Balance: Early shift (7:00 AM – 4:00 PM) aligning with Australian business hours, leaving your afternoons free.
