Administrative Assistant

Overview
The First Christian Church is seeking a dynamic Administrative Assistant to oversee the efficient daily operations of the church office. This position collaborates with staff and volunteers to provide the support necessary for the smooth functioning of church administrative responsibilities. As a highly visible role, the Administrative Assistant also serves as a welcoming representative of the church to the congregation and the broader community.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Supports the minister, lay leaders and congregation.
  • Ensures that visitors to the church office are greeted and their purpose for the visit is determined. Directs visitor to the appropriate location/person.
  • Supervises volunteers for specific office work.
  • Processes accounts payable and receivables and processes all payroll entry for employees.
  • Works with the Church Treasurer and Accountant to maintain financial records.
  • Supports the Board and maintains permanent records of the church.
  • Manages congregational communications (such as weekly bulletin, weekly electronic news and monthly newsletter) through digital and print media.
  • Coordinates with the Building Manager and Events Coordinator regarding space rental contracts, scheduling and building use.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Church culture or willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrated experience working with volunteers, general office procedures .
  • Understanding and experience in Accounts Payable procedures and systems.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers and routine software applications including Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, Google Suite and database management (such as BREEZE)
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures with poise and diplomacy and to display discretion when working with highly confidential issues.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, strong organizational skills, excellent customer service, and time management skills.
  • Ability to create and edit publications (e.g. newsletters, posters, bulletins).
  • Become knowledgeable and accepting of Eugene FCC mission and vision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Office experience in a church-related environment.
  • Knowledge of public relations, nonprofit management and fundraising.
  • Accounting skills.
  • Web design experience.
  • Verifiable experience in supervision.
  • Wants to make a meaningful difference in the community.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
