About Putnamville Correctional Facility
:
As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Putnamville Correctional Facility promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. The Putnamville Correctional Facility is a medium security Correctional facility for adult males. The Putnamville Correctional Facility is located in Greencastle, Indiana. The Putnamville Correctional Facility, established in 1914, was known for nearly 70 years as the Indiana State Farm and has been the recipient of several environmental awards. The facility offers educational and work training programs, including training in coding and visual and audio programming through The Last Mile, and other programs focused on education and parenting.

Role Overview
:
This position is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the correctional facility’s law library to ensure incarcerated individuals have access to the courts and legal research materials. Duties include maintaining and organizing legal resources, processing requests for materials and copies, tracking library usage, managing e-filings to the courts, and assisting with locating statutes and procedural information without providing legal advice.
The role also enforces library rules and scheduling procedures, monitors research sessions, and coordinates with custody and administrative staff to facilitate timely access for court deadlines. As with all positions within the Department of Correction, maintaining the safety and security of the facility is a core responsibility.

Salary Statement
:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $31,668.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
  • Ability to gain proficiency using the Odyssey E-Filing
  • Ability to use computer software including Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Supervises offender clerks in the library
  • Assists offenders in locating reference materials
  • Trains offender clerical staff
  • Answers offender questions relating to reference materials and locating particular information
  • Provides cataloging and classification expertise to make information sources readily available
  • Provide accessible library information services
  • May receive detailed instructions and direct or little supervision depending on duty involved, and must be able to organize and prioritize work
  • Must be able to work closely with representatives of regulated business, department heads, and other state agencies
  • Performs related duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
