Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Air Freight Operations Specialist (Freight Forwarding) at Bali And Company Logistics Private Limited, located in Connaught Place, New Delhi. The selected candidate will lead Air Freight operations (Imports & Exports) under our growing freight forwarding division.
Summary
If you’ve spent 3–5 years in Air Freight (Pricing + Operations), you’re likely a strong fit.
We’re looking for someone who knows how cargo actually moves by air (not just on paper).
You’ve:
- Actively negotiated with airlines, co-loaders, consolidators and overseas agents
- Personally handled time-bound, high-value, and special cargo shipments
- Stepped in when things broke, and fixed problems under pressure
This is not a role for someone “trying to switch into freight” or “exploring something new.”
This is for someone who already understands air freight operations end-to-end and wants to build something meaningful, long-term.
Your Core Responsibilities
You will own and lead Air Freight operations (Import & Export). Specifically, you will:
Plan & Execute Shipments
- Handle end-to-end air freight shipments: from enquiry, routing, and booking to uplift, arrival, and final delivery.
- Coordinate closely with airlines, co-loaders, consolidators, transporters, and our in-house Customs team.
- Ensure on-time uplift, smooth trans-shipments, and compliant documentation for each shipment.
Negotiate & Close
- Negotiate buy rates with airlines, co-loaders, and overseas agents across key trade lanes.
- Finalize sell rates, ensuring healthy GP, credit discipline, and recovery.
- Maintain rate sheets and help design pricing strategies for spot and contract business.
Handle Time-Sensitive / Special Cargo
- Plan and execute urgent, high-value, and sensitive shipments (machinery, electronics, pharma, media, event, diplomatic, etc.).
- Work with relevant stakeholders for temperature-controlled, ODC, DGR, and special handling cargo where required.
Monitor & Own Shipment Lifecycle
- Track and monitor each shipment from booking to POD & invoice.
- Coordinate pre-alerts, arrival notices, DOs, handovers to CHA, and final deliveries.
- Proactively manage delays, roll-overs, offloads, and operational breakdowns, keeping all parties informed.
Build & Manage Networks
- Build and maintain a strong network of overseas agents, airline reps, and local partners at major airports.
- Strengthen our presence across key trade lanes (China, Europe, Middle East, USA, Far East, etc.).
Commercial & Documentation Discipline
- Ensure accurate documentation (MAWB/HAWB, invoices, packing lists, permits, etc.) as per airline, country, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with accounts for invoicing, collections, and credit control.
- Keep a close eye on costs, GP, and recovery, and flag leakages or risks early.
Client Communication & Service
- Be the primary operations contact for shippers/consignees on Air shipments.
- Provide clear, timely updates and handle escalations professionally.
- Support the commercial team in retaining and growing key accounts through reliable execution.
This Role Is for You If
- You’ve independently handled Air Freight operations end-to-end, not just “coordinated” or “assisted”.
- You’re comfortable discussing rates, GP, routing, recovery, and execution in one breath.
- You’ve dealt with time-bound, sensitive shipments and solved issues directly with airlines/agents.
- You’ve built working relationships with airline reps, co-loaders, consolidators, and overseas agents.
- You genuinely enjoy the operational + commercial side of air freight (not just one piece of it).
Must-Haves
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in international Air Freight forwarding (Imports & Exports).
- Demonstrated success in:
- Rate negotiation with airlines/co-loaders/consolidators
- Margin planning, GP ownership, and recovery
- End-to-end shipment handling (not just documentation or pricing)
- Strong exposure to:
- MAWB / HAWB processes, volumetric weight calculations, airline cut-offs, and routing
- INCOTERMS, airport/terminal processes, and standard documentation flows
- Ability to work independently, take decisions, and own outcomes without constant supervision.
- Structured, reliable work ethic and strong commercial acumen.
- Comfortable using basic TMS / ERP / email / Excel for daily operations and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Commerce, Business, or similar.
- Prior experience at a freight forwarding company with solid Air Freight exposure at major Indian airports.
- Experience handling:
- Special cargo (temperature-controlled, DGR, project, event, ATA Carnet, etc.)
- Time-critical shipments where minutes matter.
- Exposure to multi-airport operations and vendor management (transporters, warehouses, etc.).
- Confidence in client-facing communication and stakeholder management.
Not a Fit If
- You’ve never independently handled Air Freight operations (import/export) or always needed someone above you to close.
- You’re strong at talking and selling, but weak on execution, follow-through, and recovery.
- You require constant supervision to keep shipments moving.
- You’re looking at this as a temporary side-step rather than a long-term build.
