Role Overview
The Architectural Draftsman is responsible for supporting all drafting and technical documentation activities across the organisation’s projects. The role involves producing, coordinating, and maintaining high-quality drawings and models across architectural, structural, and MEP disciplines.
The position requires expert-level drafting capability, strong BIM understanding, and the ability to develop detailed, coordinated, and buildable design documentation in support of project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design Drafting & Technical Documentation
- Prepare, develop, and maintain architectural drawings, details, and documentation to required project standards.
- Support drafting requirements across architectural, structural, and MEP elements to ensure coordinated outputs.
- Produce detailed plans, sections, elevations, schedules, and construction details suitable for execution.
- Assist in updating and revising drawings based on design development, coordination, and site feedback.
2. BIM Modelling & Revit Production
- Develop and manage Revit models in line with project BIM standards and workflows.
- Perform cut-throughs, detailing, and model-based documentation directly from coordinated BIM models.
- Prepare schedules, quantities, and drawing outputs extracted from the model.
- Support model coordination and clash awareness across architectural, structural, and MEP disciplines.
- Maintain model integrity, accuracy, and consistency across drawing packages.
3. CAD Production & Drawing Control
- Produce and manage AutoCAD drawings, layouts, and technical details where required.
- Ensure correct use of layers, standards, line weights, and drawing conventions.
- Maintain drawing registers and support document control processes.
4. Detailing & Design Support
- Develop high-quality construction details, focusing on buildability, interfaces, and execution clarity.
- Support design refinement through detailed drawing development and technical resolution.
- Assist senior designers and engineers with design coordination and detailing requirements.
5. Visualisation & Graphic Support
- Use Photoshop and visual tools to enhance drawings, diagrams, and technical presentations.
- Support visual clarification of design intent for internal reviews and project communication.
- Assist with renderings, presentation layouts, and graphical enhancements as required.
6. Coordination & Design Interface
- Coordinate drafting outputs across disciplines to ensure alignment and consistency.
- Incorporate comments from technical managers, consultants, and coordination reviews.
- Support issuance of coordinated drawing packages for design, construction, and approvals.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or degree in Architecture, Architectural Drafting, or a related discipline.
- 10 years experience working as an Architectural Draftsman within a multi-discipline design or construction environment.
- Strong exposure to building projects requiring coordinated architectural, structural, and MEP documentation.
Technical Skills & Software Proficiency
- Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD for drafting and detailing.
- Advanced working knowledge of Revit (BIM), including modelling, detailing, schedules, and documentation extraction.
- Strong understanding of BIM workflows, coordination principles, and model-based production.
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop for drawing enhancement and visual support.
- Familiarity with visualisation and design tools such as Rayon Design or similar platforms is preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction detailing, materials, and buildability considerations.
