Architectural Technician — Job Description
Overview
Produce technical drawings, detailed construction information, and coordinated documentation to support architectural design, planning, and delivery of building projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate technical drawings, working drawings, detail sheets, and schedules using CAD/BIM tools (Revit, AutoCAD, ArchiCAD).
- Develop and coordinate construction detailing for architectural, structural, MEP interfaces, and finishes.
- Prepare and update drawings for planning submissions, building regulations, and tender/contract packages.
- Create and maintain BIM models, ensure model coordination, clash detection, and maintain model standards.
- Produce drawings for fabrication, joinery, curtain walling, and bespoke architectural elements; generate shop drawings and fabrication details.
- Develop and issue drawing revisions, as-built drawings, and record changes during construction.
- Produce and manage technical specifications, material schedules, and annotated details.
- Liaise with architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors to resolve technical queries and ensure design intent is maintained on site.
- Undertake site surveys, measured building surveys, and produce required as-built geometry and site drawings.
- Support cost estimating and bill of quantities preparation by providing accurate take-offs and quantities.
- Ensure compliance with building regulations, standards, and contract documentation; assist with approval documentation.
- Assist in coordinating information for tender, procurement, and construction phases; respond to RFIs and technical queries.
- Maintain drawing libraries, templates, and CAD/BIM standards; mentor junior technicians and CAD/BIM technicians where applicable.
- Produce clear, well-organised documentation and issue packs for contractors and clients.
Required Qualifications
- HND/HNC, foundation degree, or equivalent qualification in Architectural Technology, Architectural Engineering, or related discipline.
- 2–5+ years’ experience producing technical architectural drawings and working within a design team (adjustable by level).
- Proficiency in BIM and CAD software (Revit preferred; AutoCAD/ArchiCAD experience acceptable).
- Strong understanding of construction methods, detailing, materials, and building regulations.
- Competence in interpreting architectural drawings, specifications, and structural/MEP coordination.
- Good technical drawing skills, attention to detail, and ability to produce buildable details.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to liaise effectively with consultants and contractors.
- Experience with measured surveys and use of surveying equipment (laser scanner, total station) desirable.
Preferred
- Professional membership (CIAT) or working toward certification.
- Experience with clash detection tools (Navisworks), 3D modelling, and parametric families/component creation.
- Knowledge of sustainability standards, thermal detailing, and compliance with accessibility requirements.
- Familiarity with specification tools, cost estimating software, and project management platforms.
Pay: QAR111.10 - QAR129.05 per hour
