Archivist

Summary:

Responsible for overseeing and maintaining the Kravet Archive. Works closely with Chief Creative Director and design studios to develop and implement archival documents by utilizing advanced understanding of the history of art and textiles and the design processes necessary to produce high quality innovative collections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing the overall look, feel and cleanliness of the archive while restoring, conserving and maintaining the structural integrity of the artwork and textiles.
  • Monitor and Maintain appropriate environmental conditions (light, humidity and temperature).
  • Coordinate and communicate archive availability, policies and procedures to internal and external visitors using a special archive tour calendar.
  • Enforce archive handling procedures and monitor proper use of documents during all visits.
  • Process incoming acquisitions through proper cleaning, photographing or scanning, accessioning and storage.
  • Manage all archive requests, reserves and loans across departments and studios to prevent conflicts.
  • Manage outbound licensing requests, including rapid turnaround of scanning, digitization and delivery of archival materials via shared platforms or shipping to studios (for documents to think to scan).
  • Prepare archive documents for presentations, client/vendor meetings and internal studios meetings.
  • Assists in coordinating and executing archive tours and small-scale events. Educate customers, students and other special guests of Kravet to the valuable textiles resources within the archive by imparting knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm for the design process.


Complexity
:

  • Responsible for developing overall look, feel, messaging and design aesthetic for the archive including archival tours for customers, designers and universities.
  • Works independently to oversee the physical and digital archive by monitoring environmental conditions as well as scanning, cataloging and organizing digital collections utilizing a web-based management system.
  • Managing internal and external licensing requests, including rapid turnaround of scanning, accessioning, digitization and delivery of archival materials via shared platforms or shipping to studios (for documents to think to scan).

Abilities/Key Competencies/Skills:

  • General understanding of textile design genres and types to facilitate proper cataloging of artwork using keywords, curating collections for exhibitions and archive tours, and organization of the physical archive.

Experience/Certifications/Education:

  • Textiles, Interior Design, Archival Studies/Administration, or Library and Information Science
  • Trainings on textile and paper conservation, maintenance of archival documents
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite and Adobe Photoshop
