Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
Provide the opportunity to create a detailed inventory of WIS-TV’s holdings of thousands of local news videotapes spanning the late 1970s through the 2000s. Time each week will be split between onsite photography work at WIS-TV, and transcribing text from the images (either at MIRC or remotely). The inventory will provide a better understanding of content, location of tapes, and aid in future decisions about digitization priorities. Internship will include:
  • Carefully photographing shelves and tapes currently housed in the WIS-TV building to ensure maximum legibility, including close-ups of exterior case labels and tape labels
  • Transcribing tape labels from the photographs. Any illegible or missing labels, as well as other issues, would be documented for curator review
  • Regular check-ins with the MIRC curator and representatives from the Center for Civil Rights History and Research, and potential opportunities for the intern to independently research events and individuals referenced in the labels
  • If feasible, the intern could also research potential digitization options and associated budget estimates for the collection

Qualifications
Typically holds a high school diploma or GED. Requires no prior work experience.
