Assistant Bookkeeper

<Overview>
Join our finance team as a temporary Assistant Bookkeeper and play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting our accounting operations. This position offers the opportunity to use your skills in bookkeeping, account reconciliation, and financial reporting, specifically your knowledge of and proficiency with Quickbooks Online. You will assist with day-to-day accounting tasks, such as bookkeeping and other accounting tasks, while training other staff in using Quickooks Online.

<Duties>

  • Assist with maintaining the general ledger, including journal entries, account analysis, and account reconciliation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing, payment tracking, and vendor communications.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations to verify financial data integrity.
  • Enter data accurately into accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms; ensure all transactions are properly categorized with debits & credits.
  • Aid in payroll processing, tax preparation support, and governmental accounting compliance as needed.
  • Prepare financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information; assist with financial report writing for internal use or external audits.
  • Conduct monthly closing activities, including general ledger accounting and double-entry bookkeeping procedures to ensure timely reporting.

<Requirements>

  • Proven experience with bookkeeping or accounting roles; familiarity with public accounting or non-profit accounting is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms; experience with Quicken is advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP principles, balance sheet reconciliation, general ledger accounting, and financial concepts.
  • Ability to perform detailed account reconciliation, bank reconciliation, and account analysis accurately.
  • Proficiency in 10 key typing for data entry tasks; excellent organizational skills for managing multiple accounts and deadlines.
  • Experience with governmental accounting practices and tax-related processes is desirable.
  • Knowledge of payroll processing, accounts payable/receivable management, and budgeting procedures.
