Job Summary

Provide leadership in the development, implementation and coordination of education programs, services and activities for the Asian American Cultural Center that educate and promote a campus-wide understanding of Asian/Asian American cultures and that enhance Asian American and Asian international students' experiences.

Duties & Responsibilities

Cultural Programming
  • Develop and promote educationally transformative programs that result in cultural awareness, enhance the Illinois Experience, and build appreciation for Asian/Asian American students and diversity in local and global contexts.
  • Develop programs and events that highlight cultures around the world. Develop programs and events that support Asian/Asian American students’ experiences.
  • Collaborate with other units and campus-community partners to develop programs that encompass various intersecting identities (e.g., nationality, immigration, faith, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability status, multiracial experiences).
Capacity-Building and Outreach
  • Collaborate with other units, academic departments, and student organizations on programming, advising, leadership, and global perspectives development of all students.
  • Serve on campus-wide committees, task forces, and work groups on campus and in the broader Urbana-Champaign community to enhance Asian/Asian American students’ experience on campus.

Marketing and communications
  • Coordinate marketing and communication (eg, social media, electronic newsletter, website, calendars, tours, resource fairs).

Supervision
  • Coordinate the recruitment and supervision of student volunteers.
  • Provide professional learning experiences that enable volunteers to develop the personal and professional skills needed to thrive in a diverse society.
  • Assist in the supervision of student staff.


Additional Physical Demands

Office position that includes evening and weekend work hours, and some travel is occasionally required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:

  • A total of two (2) years (24 months) in education, training and/or work experience in education administration, educational programming, or student advising.
    • (Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
  • Demonstrated experience with programs focused on Asian/Asian American students' experiences.


Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, college student personnel, counseling, or related field.


Experience:

  • Professional experience advising and creating leadership development opportunities for students and/or student organizations.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, problem solving, professional boundaries, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience in curriculum development.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Customer service skills, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 5/4/2026. The budgeted salary range for the position is $56,000 to $62,000.
