The Assistant Import Account Manager is responsible for coordinating the import and customs clearance of goods for key accounts, ensuring all shipments are processed efficiently, on time, and in full compliance with international trade laws. This role serves as a key point of contact for clients, freight forwarders, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Import Operations & Logistics
- Shipment Coordination: Manage and monitor the complete lifecycle of import shipments (Ocean and Air freight) from the supplier to the warehouse/client delivery.
- Carrier/Forwarder Liaison: Coordinate with suppliers, freight forwarders, and shipping lines to book shipments, resolve delays, and optimize transport routes for cost and speed.
- Tracking and Reporting: Monitor shipment status and provide timely updates, tracking reports, and projected arrival timelines to clients and internal sales teams.
- Cost Management: Assist in negotiating contracts and rates with logistics partners and analyze import data to identify cost-reduction opportunities.
2. Documentation & Compliance
- Customs Documentation: Prepare, review, and maintain accurate import documentation, including Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Bills of Lading (BL), and Certificates of Origin (COO).
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all import activities strictly comply with customs regulations, trade agreements, and company policies.
- Customs Clearance: Liaise with Customs Brokers and authorities to facilitate timely clearance, ensuring correct classification of goods using HS Codes and proper calculation of duties and taxes.
- Financial Coordination: Collaborate with the Finance/Accounts team to handle Letters of Credit (LCs), process duty and tax payments, and ensure accurate record-keeping for landed cost calculation.
3. Account Management
- Client Relationship: Serve as a main point of contact for key accounts, addressing inquiries, resolving service issues, and communicating any logistical challenges proactively.
- Internal Collaboration: Work closely with Sales, Procurement, and Warehouse teams to align import strategies with customer delivery schedules and inventory needs.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Category Requirements Education Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Trade, or Business Administration. Experience Typically 2–4 years of proven experience in import/export operations, freight forwarding, or a related supply chain role. Technical Skills Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), strong MS Excel skills for data analysis/reporting, and experience with customs compliance or logistics software. Core Knowledge Strong understanding of Incoterms, customs procedures, and international trade regulations. Soft Skills Excellent written and verbal communication, strong negotiation abilities, high attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
