ASSISTANT MANAGER LEGAL - CONTRACTS & ADVISORY

Job Purpose: The ideal candidate will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of general contracts, procurement contracts, pre bidding document reviews, and post-bidding contract negotiations. Additionally, to ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements Job Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts, including supply & service contracts, Customer Contracts, vendor contracts, off shore & On Shore contracts, renovation and civil work contracts and other procurement contracts.
  • Fully familiar with the telecommunication business, regulatory affairs particularly cellular mobile, marketing needs, technology contracts and LDI business.
  • Draft, review, and respond to show-cause notices issued by regulators, including legal justifications and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate with internal legal teams and relevant departments to gather facts and formulate a strong defense.
  • Maintain a database of past responses, outcomes, and regulatory trends for future reference.
  • Work closely with legal, finance, and operational teams to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Represent the company in regulatory meetings, hearings, and inspections when required.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on business operations.
  • Prepare periodic reports for senior management on regulatory affairs, legal matters, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure contracts comply with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including PECA and international best practices.
  • Provide legal support and guidance to various internal departments regarding contract terms and risk management.
  • Liaise with internal / external stakeholders, including vendors, to resolve contract-related disputes, clause negotiation, or other issues.
  • Ensure timely contract renewals, amendments, and terminations as required.
  • Draft legal documents, including but not limited to Show Cause Notices, Replies, regulatory affairs, Circulars, Warning Notices, and Penalty Notices.
  • Prepare and present monthly and quarterly contract status report

Eligibility Criteria (Education, Knowledge, Experience and Skills): Education:

  • LL.B (required).
  • LL.M or any other postgraduate legal qualification (preferred)

Work Experience

  • 4-5 years of relevant experience in contract law, commercial transactions, or corporate legal roles.
  • Experience within the telecom/IT sector is a plus.

Skills - Generic:

  • Strong knowledge of contract law and commercial laws in Pakistan.
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to interpret legal language and advise on risks.
  • Proficient in understanding and applying international contract law principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong PowerPoint presentation skills for summarizing legal positions and contract summaries.
  • Excellent report writing skills, with a focus on clear, concise communication of complex legal issues

Skills - Job Specific:

  • Candidates with proficiency in Oracle ERP systems will be preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
  • Proactive approach in identifying risks and solving problems.
  • Commitment to ethical standards and legal compliance.

Special Requirement

  • Membership in relevant legal bodies (e.g., Provincial Bar councils, High Court license) is preferred.
  • This role may require occasional travel.
  • Must be a team player and have the ability to handle a fast-paced work environment.

Others

  • LL.B or equivalent legal qualification, with a minimum of 4-5 years of relevant experience in contract law.
  • Solid understanding of Pakistani laws and international best practices in contract management.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills for managing multiple contracts and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and manage contract-related projects.
