Assistant Manager or Manager - Finance

VACANCY TYPE: Full time, one-year fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Adam Smith International (ASI) is currently seeking a Finance Manager – Pakistan to join its Pakistan country team and play a central role in delivering strong financial stewardship across multiple client-funded programmes.

You will be responsible for day-to-day financial operations, ensuring timely and accurate payments, statutory compliance, robust financial controls, and effective coordination with internal teams, banks, tax advisers, auditors, and ASI’s global finance colleagues.

Your work will directly help enable programme delivery, maintain client confidence, and ensure ASI Pakistan continues to meet the highest standards of financial governance, compliance, and accountability.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Here’s a glimpse of what your day-to-day might look like:

Payments & Financial Operations

  • Manage monthly payments to associates and subcontractors, ensuring accuracy, correct tax treatment, and settlement in Sage Intacct.
  • Process weekly supplier payments, staff claims, and employee advances, ensuring payments are processed within agreed timelines.
  • Review supporting document of all supplier and associate invoices before payment
  • Coordinate preparation, signing, and submission of cheques/online bank transfers with authorised signatories and the bank.
  • Monitor supplier and associate ageing, ensuring balances over 60 days remain within agreed thresholds.
  • Ensure books of accounts are properly maintained in Sage Intacct.

Tax & Statutory Compliance

  • Manage weekly withholding income tax deductions and payments, ensuring timely deposit with FBR and reconciliation of withholding tax ledgers.
  • Extract and review monthly sales tax data (Punjab, ICT, KP), coordinating with tax advisers for timely filing of returns.
  • Liaise with external tax advisers on quarterly withholding tax statements, sales tax returns and EOBI matters
  • Ensure full compliance with federal and provincial tax laws applicable to ASI Pakistan.
  • Provide all relevant data to tax advisers during federal and provincial tax audits

Banking & Reconciliations

  • Perform weekly bank reconciliations and resolve reconciling items promptly.
  • Coordinate with banks on statements, remittances, payment confirmations, and account administration.
  • Prepare and submit State Bank Form-R for incoming foreign remittances.
  • Support changes to bank signatories, including preparation of required documentation.

Systems, Controls & Documentation

  • Ensure all payment entries are accurately recorded in Sage Intacct with complete supporting documentation.
  • Maintain proper electronic and hard-copy filing of payment instruments, acknowledgements, and bank correspondence.
  • Strengthen and adhere to internal controls in line with ASI and client requirements.

Audit & Stakeholder Support

  • Ensure all audit sample requests are addressed with a quick turnaround and with full supporting documentation
  • Respond to finance-related queries from programme teams, suppliers, associates, auditors, and headquarters.
  • Support the Head of Finance with payroll, intercompany invoicing and audit engagements.


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Must have

  • Qualifications: CA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA strongly preferred or part qualified / Master’s degree with major in Accounting & Finance or relevant field.
  • Experience Required:
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant finance and accounting experience, preferably in development, or public practice accountancy firms.
  • Hands-on experience with payments, tax compliance, bank reconciliations and audits.
  • Proven experience working with multiple stakeholders and high volume of payments
  • Competencies:
  • Strong attention to detail with high level of accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure
  • Stronge sense of ownership and accountability
  • Skills:
  • Solid understanding of Pakistan income and sales tax laws
  • Strong Excel and financial management skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Attitude:
  • Proactive, solution oriented and organised
  • High Trustworthy, reliable, professional, contentious and accountable.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience with FCDO funded programmes
  • Experience in Sage Intacct
  • Experience in big four accountancy firms
