Job Description:

Position Purpose:

To ensure cost-effective, timely, and quality procurement of raw, packaging, and indirect materials while maintaining strong vendor relationships and supporting uninterrupted production.

The Assistant Manager – Procurement plays a key role in ensuring operational efficiency through strategic sourcing, effective vendor management, and data-driven decision-making. This role serves as a critical link between sales forecasts and production needs, enabling smooth operations and sustained business growth.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Strategic Sourcing & Planning: Translate production plans (MRP) and sales forecasts into efficient procurement cycles, ensuring timely availability of materials and zero production downtime.
  • Vendor Management: Identify, evaluate, and manage suppliers; conduct performance reviews and develop alternate sourcing to mitigate risks.
  • Cost Optimization & Negotiation: Lead negotiations to secure competitive pricing and favorable terms while tracking market trends to drive cost savings.
  • Purchase Order Management: Oversee the end-to-end PO lifecycle in the Supply chain Module, ensuring accuracy in specifications, quantities, and pricing.
  • Inventory Control: Collaborate with planning and warehouse teams to maintain optimal stock levels and implement effective safety stock practices.
  • Quality & Compliance: Ensure all materials meet required quality and regulatory standards; coordinate with QA/QC to address non-conformances.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Maintain procurement MIS and provide insights on spend, trends, and supplier performance (OTIF).
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with R&D for new product sourcing and with Finance for budgeting and payment processes.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in:

  • Supply Chain Management
  • Logistics & Procurement
  • Business Administration (with specialization in procurement/purchasing)

Experience

  • 5–6 years in procurement / supply chain
  • FMCG or manufacturing experience preferred

Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills:

  • ERP systems (SAP / Oracle / local ERP)
  • Data analysis (Excel / dashboards)

Behavioral Skills:

  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Analytical mindset
  • High attention to detail
