Description: Full-Time Associate Attorney
Location: Work in the Houston office, hybrid model, and at client locations located in the Houston area.
Essential Functions:
· Advising and providing solutions and legal advice to municipal clients.
· Legal drafting orders, ordinances, resolutions, policies, and procedures.
· Legal drafting and reviewing contracts, leases, easements, and deeds.
· Legal research state and federal law, including statutes, administrative regulations, attorney general opinions, case law, and preparing legal memoranda.
· Advocating clients’ interest in court and before administrative bodies.
Areas of Practice: Municipal Law including economic development, elections & voting rights, ethics & professionalism, land use & development, law enforcement & municipal court; legislative consulting & advocacy, open meetings & open records, personnel & employment matters, procurement & construction projects, real estate transactions, utilities & telecommunications; water, wastewater & the environment.
Requirements:
· Graduated from Texas Law School and licensed in Texas in good standing
· At least 3-5 years practicing law in Texas
· Some experience as a civil litigator in Texas, with a working knowledge of Texas Rules of Civil Procedure
· Strong research and writing skills
· Exceptional oral communication skills, including ability to speak effectively in small groups, before large audiences at public meetings, and in the courtroom.
Preferences:
· Independent and self-motivating, willing to quickly learn Municipal Law.
· Organized, dependable and steady.
· Capable of transitioning between numerous clients on multiple subjects daily.
· Innovative, creative, and resourceful problem-solver.
· Excellent communicator (oral and written)
· Adept at billing attorney time with the ability to generate billable hours
Documentation: Current Texas Driver’s License with acceptable driving record, and the ability to drive long distances.
Compensation: Depends on qualifications and experience. Associates producing stellar work product and meeting billable hour requirements will be eligible for generous quarterly bonuses. This is a professional position and is exempt from eligibility for overtime under the FLSA.
Hours: Associates are required to attend client meetings on certain evenings (e.g. city council, planning & zoning, board of adjustment, charter review commission, etc.). The office is open from 8:30-5:30 daily.
