Associate Attorney - Land & Zoning

Key Responsibilities

· Prepare applications and supporting materials for zoning and land use matters, including zoning changes, special exceptions, approvals, local ordinances, and deed/easement drafting.

· Draft persuasive project descriptions, statements of justification, and conduct code/legal research.

· Review and direct technical consultants such as engineers, traffic planners, architects, and environmental specialists.

· Prepare disclosure statements, affidavits, and jurisdiction-specific ownership documents.

· Submit and monitor zoning and land use applications; liaise with jurisdictional staff throughout the review process.

· Assist with all aspects of land development and subdivision approval processes.

· Communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, business professionals, and third parties.

· Produce deliverables in a timely manner and maintain responsive correspondence.

· Foster strong working relationships and uphold firm policies and practices.

Qualifications

· Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.

· Active membership in good standing with a State Bar.

· Minimum 4–5 years of experience practicing law in Virginia OR eligibility under Rule 1A:1 of the Virginia Bar.

· Experience in land use, zoning, transactional real estate, or a related practice area.

Desired Skills

· Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills.

· Experience drafting persuasive legal documents and statements.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

· Ability to manage large, multi-disciplinary projects both independently and collaboratively.

· Strong initiative with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $165,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
