**POSITION DETAILS**

Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens **,** LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York (CUNY). LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree programs and more than fifty workforce training, ESOL, GED and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 24,000 students. More than one-third of LaGuardia’s degree-seeking students are born outside the United States; they come from 136 countries and speak 43 heritage languages. Sixty percent are first-generation college students.

Virtually all LaGuardia students are ethnic minorities (89 percent), 58 percent are women, 27 percent are over the age of 25. Forty-six percent of associate degree students are Hispanic. Upon graduation, most students transfer to four-year colleges, typically in CUNY, to complete their baccalaureate degrees. Graduates of career programs such as Nursing, Computer Technology, and Veterinary Technology enter the workforce. Under the direction of theHead of Extended Day & Interlibrary Loan Services, the Extended Day and Interlibrary Loan Coordinator supervises part-time staff and workflow for Library Circulation and Interlibrary Loan Services during the extended day hours (evenings and weekends). The Coordinator will also work with and supervise part-time Extended Day Media Services staff. The work schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday, 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and Friday or Saturday 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. This schedule may shift depending upon the Library’s schedule of services.

The Extended Day and Interlibrary Loan Coordinatorwill also provide expert end-user support by proficiently and accurately inputting and reporting on information in CUNYfirst [CUNY (ERP) Oracle/PeopleSoft System], ILLiad and Odyssey Atlas Systems, OCLC Global Library Cooperative System, Alma Library System and EBSCOhost and other library database systems. The Extended Day and Interlibrary Loan Coordinatorwill demonstrate a strong service orientation coupled with proficiency working with computers and excellent organization skills with superior attention to detail and accuracy.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview responsibilities, theExtended Day and Interlibrary Loan Coordinator’s assigned duties will include but not be limited to the following:

+ Coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Library, including providing customer service, coordinating work schedules, and coordinating the training of Extended Day and Interlibrary Loan staff and Work Study students;

+ Assist theHead of Extended Day & Interlibrary Loan Servicesby acting as a liaison with members of the 9-to-5 Library staff to ensure a smooth transition for services and problem-solving matters; liaise with various departments to coordinate Circulation, Interlibrary Loan and other Library service requests and operational needs;

+ Maintain Interlibrary Loan databases, records, and files to ensure accuracy, compliance and confidentiality;

+ Provide purchasing and budget support: Assist Head of Services in coordinating procurement processes and supporting budget-related tasks as needed;

+ Coordinate the use of office equipment such as the fax machine, copiers, ILL computers, scanner and printers; help troubleshoot problems with the online Circulation System and office equipment; support all tasks relating to opening and closing of the Library during the extended day hours;

+ Provide expert end-user support using interlibrary loan software such as ILLiad, Odyssey, OCLC, Alma Circulation System and other library database systems to perform the following functions:

+ search systems to determine ownership, availability and location of requested library materials;

+ process requests to deliver eJournal articles via Odyssey, Article Exchange or email system;

+ input data and creates online pickup jobs for Interlibrary loan materials shipped via METRO [Metropolitan New York Library Council] and UPS delivery services; process online requests for UPS and other outgoing delivery services; and

+ monitor delivery fees to ensure that the service stays within budgeted limits.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

Bachelor's Degree required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

+ Knowledge of automated library systems

+ Experience with ILLiad, OCLC and other Resource Sharing Systems

+ Knowledge of Windows-based computing, including experience with Microsoft Office products

+ Strong written and interpersonal communication skills

+ Ability to work autonomously

+ Ability to provide excellent customer service to patrons in a diverse environment

+ Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment

+ Available to work evening and weekend hours

**CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW**

Assists with Library operations and provides excellent service to Library users.

  • Coordinates with faculty, students, and librarians to ensure needed materials are accessible on a timely basis

  • Provides general information in the use of library resources and services

  • Keeps records of library transactions and generates reports on usage

  • Exercises sound judgment in enforcing library policies and procedures

  • May perform and/or supervise daily operations of a service unit such as the Reserve Desk

  • May assist with digital resource management, acquisitions, and updating Library web pages

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
