Associate Teacher - Preschool

Fundamental Objective: The Associate Teacher, under the supervision of the Teacher, Site Supervisor and Program Administration, supports children's cognitive, language, physical, social, and emotional growth through developmentally appropriate education. They assist with food prep and service while ensuring a safe, clean, and supervised environment for children ages 2-5.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Proof of vaccination for Pertussis, Measles, the annual flu vaccination or a flu declination statement.
  • Possession of a valid Associate Teacher Permit or higher to meet standards established by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing within 60 days of hire.
  • Twelve (12) units in early childhood education or child development from an accredited college or university; three (3) units in infant/toddler development is highly desirable.
  • Six (6) months of experience in a state or federally funded childcare program.
  • Completion of Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) Training: ASQ: SE-2
  • Completion of Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) Training
  • Completion of the AB 1207 Current Mandated Child Abuse training and reporting.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Proof of completion of 16 hours of Health and Safety training that must include the following components: Pediatric first aid, Pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), lead poisoning, preventative health practices course or courses that include instruction in the recognition, management, and prevention of infectious diseases, including immunizations, and prevention of childhood injuries and 1 hour of childhood nutrition training.
  • The following trainings must be completed within the first six (6) months of the hire date: First 5 Confidentiality, ServSafe Certificate, Integrated Pest Management Training, 40 hours Domestic Violence Training, 40 hours Sexual Assault Training, ASSIST training, Mental Health First Aid Training, Narcan Training.

Essential Job Specific Duties:

  • Works with teaching staff to maintain a consistent schedule that ensures a balance of child-directed and adult-directed activities, choice time, movement, and skill development. Supports smooth transitions between activities for an effective learning environment.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all records and information related to children and families. Ensure sensitive data is only shared with authorized personnel.
  • Assists in ensuring the classroom environment meets safety standards and complies with regulations. Follow ECERS guidelines for a high-quality learning space.
  • Assists in the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS).
  • Assists with implementing positive behavior management strategies, supporting children with IEPs and IFSPs, and upholding ADA and IDEA requirements for children with disabilities.
  • Assists in adult/child ratio as needed, including rotating between classrooms or centers. Actively supervises children at all times.
  • Model positive interactions between teachers, children, and parents.
  • Report child injuries, incidents, and inappropriate behavior to supervisors and report suspected child abuse or neglect per mandated reporter procedures.
  • Assists in observing and recording behaviors of children to aid teachers in implementing classroom behavior management strategies.
  • Supports daily routines such as diapering, toilet training, feeding, and hygiene, ensuring compliance with Title 5 and Title 22. Assists with conducting health checks and administering first aid as needed. Ensure hygiene and developmental appropriateness.
  • Prepares and assists with meals for children, including cleanup, while maintaining sanitation standards per health and safety regulations. Receives and stores kitchen materials and supplies to ensure proper organization and compliance.
  • Provides breaks for teaching staff, as assigned. May assist in other classrooms and/or centers.
  • Performs cleaning and maintenance of classroom, kitchen, and office spaces. Keeps learning environment safe and hygienic.
  • May assist with the safe transport of children to and from school. Assists with car seat installation and maintaining accurate driving and attendance logs.
  • Attend all service training and staff meetings as required.

Pay: $21.00 - $22.50 per hour
