Job Purpose
To support internal audit functions by evaluating financial records, ensuring compliance with company policies, maritime regulations, and identifying risks within shipping line financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Internal Audit & Compliance
- Conduct internal audits of financial transactions, processes, and controls across shipping operations.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, international shipping regulations, and financial standards.
- Identify gaps in internal controls and recommend corrective actions.
2. Financial Review & Analysis
- Review revenue streams including freight income, demurrage, detention, and other shipping charges.
- Verify vendor payments, port expenses, vessel-related costs, and agency disbursements.
- Analyze financial statements and highlight discrepancies or irregularities.
3. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare detailed audit reports with findings, risks, and recommendations.
- Maintain audit working papers and proper documentation for all audit activities.
- Follow up on audit observations to ensure timely closure.
4. Risk Management
- Identify financial and operational risks within shipping transactions.
- Evaluate fraud risks and suggest preventive controls.
- Assist in developing risk mitigation strategies.
5. Process Improvement
- Recommend improvements in financial processes, billing systems, and cost control mechanisms.
- Support automation and ERP-based audit controls (e.g., SAP or Oracle).
6. Coordination
- Liaise with finance, operations, and port offices for audit-related queries.
- Coordinate with external auditors during statutory audits.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- ACCA / CA (Inter) / CMA (part-qualified preferred).
Experience
- 2–4 years of experience in audit or finance, preferably in shipping, logistics, or related industry.
- Experience in handling large transaction volumes and reconciliations.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of auditing standards and financial controls.
- Knowledge of shipping-related financial components (freight, port charges, vessel costs).
- Proficiency in MS Excel and ERP systems (SAP preferred).
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
- Strong communication and report writing skills.
