Auto Workshop In-Charge
Location: Fujairah, UAE
Reporting to: Maintenance / Operations Manager

Job Purpose

To lead, manage and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the company’s automotive workshop facility, ensuring that all heavy vehicles, plant equipment and service vehicles are maintained, repaired and available for production operations with high reliability, safety, efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise all workshop operations: planning, scheduling, prioritising maintenance, repairs, inspections, servicing of vehicles, heavy equipment, mobile plant, service fleet and support vehicles.
  • Coordinate with Production, Maintenance and Operations teams to ensure asset availability and minimal downtime of crushers, haul trucks, loaders, service vans, etc.
  • Assign work to mechanics, technicians, service staff; monitor progress, quality, completion and turnaround times.
  • Monitor and manage spare parts and consumables inventory – track usage, reorder stock, maintain optimal levels, minimise wastage.
  • Ensure workshop tools, equipment, lifts, jigs, diagnostic tools, service bays are maintained and in safe working condition.
  • Implement and enforce safe-work practices, adherence to health, safety & environment (HSE) standards, workshops’ housekeeping standards and company policies.
  • Review and update workshop procedures, maintenance checklists, inspection schedules and service records.
  • Maintain and analyse maintenance/repair records, downtime reports, cost logs, turnaround times, KPI dashboards — propose improvements.
  • Monitor budget for workshop operations (parts, labour, subcontracting, consumables) and seek cost-efficient solutions without compromising safety or quality.
  • Liaise with external vendors, service providers, manufacturers’ agents, warranty service centres to ensure timely support and parts supply.
  • Provide leadership, training, mentoring for mechanics and workshop team, conduct performance appraisals, identify development needs.
  • Participate in selecting, hiring mechanics/technicians; enforce performance standards.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, manufacturer service policies, warranty requirements, environmental legislation and company audit requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical / Automotive Engineering, or equivalent technical qualification.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience in heavy vehicle/plant workshop environment (preferably mining/quarry operations) with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or in-charge role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, heavy equipment systems (loaders, haul trucks), mobile plant maintenance, and automotive fleets.
  • Proven leadership and team-management experience.
  • Strong organisational, planning and scheduling skills.
  • Ability to analyse maintenance data, generate reports, interpret KPIs and drive improvements.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and procurement of parts/consumables.
  • Good communication skills (English required; Arabic an advantage).
  • Valid UAE driving licence and willingness to occasionally travel to equipment/vehicle sites as needed.
  • Knowledge of HSE standards, workshop safety, lifting operations and safe work permits.

  • Technical competence: strong hands-on understanding of heavy vehicle/plant systems and diagnostics.
  • Planning & organisation: efficient scheduling of jobs, prioritisation under downtime pressures.
  • Problem-solving: ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical/hydraulic issues and drive root-cause fixes.
  • Cost consciousness: focus on cost-effective maintenance, parts usage, service turnaround.
  • Communication & coordination: liaise effectively with operations, maintenance, procurement, external vendors and team.
  • Safety focus: ensure high safety standards, risk awareness, incident prevention.
  • IT proficiency: using maintenance management software (CMMS), spreadsheets, service records.

Working Conditions

  • Based at the Fujairah site (workshop within the crusher facility).
  • Workshop environment: mechanical, heavy-duty, noisy, potentially outdoor exposure.
  • May involve shift coverage or on-call response for breakdowns, especially heavy equipment.
  • Physical presence required in the workshop, on equipment, and in field when needed.

  • Reports to: Maintenance / Operations Manager
  • Direct reports: Workshop Supervisors, Senior Technicians, Mechanics, Service Assistants
  • Collaboration with: Procurement, HSE, Operations/Production, External Vendors
