Barista/Cashier

Job Title: Barista

Reports To: Manager / Owner

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Location: Norton Shores, Michigan

Position Summary:

The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving a variety of coffee and espresso-based beverages, as well as teas and other drinks. This position requires excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a small team environment. The Barista plays a key role in maintaining the welcoming and community-focused atmosphere of the coffee shop.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner

 Prepare and serve hot and cold beverages to specification, including espresso-

based drinks, brewed coffee, smoothies, and specialty beverages

 Operate and maintain coffee equipment, including espresso machines, grinders,

brewers, and blenders

 Take customer orders accurately and process payments using the point-of-sale

system

 Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area, including counters,

equipment, and customer seating areas

 Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines as required by local health

regulations

 Monitor inventory levels of coffee, milk, syrups, and other ingredients; restock

supplies as necessary

 Prepare light food items, such as pastries or sandwiches, as required

 Open and/or close the shop according to established procedures

 Engage with customers to build rapport and contribute to a positive customer

experience

Required Qualifications:

 Strong interpersonal and communication skills

 Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team

 Basic math skills and comfort with handling cash and card transactions

 Punctual, dependable, and able to follow instructions

 Willingness to learn about coffee preparation techniques and products

Preferred Qualifications:

 Previous experience in a customer service or food & beverage role

 Prior experience as a barista or in a coffee shop setting

Physical Requirements:

 Ability to stand for extended periods of time

 Ability to lift up to 30 pounds

 Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as grinding, tamping, and pouring

beverages

Work Schedule:

 Flexible scheduling required, including mornings, weekends, and holidays as

needed.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $14.00 per hour
