POSITION SUMMARY
The Billing Manager is responsible for the daily activities of the billing department and oversees the billing department’s employees; the billing department is required to ensure that patients are eligible for services and apply the appropriate charges to their insurance or personal billing account. They monitor payments of medical bills, transmit electronic claims, and deal directly with insurance companies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Oversees the day-to-day operations of the billing department to ensure it operates in the most efficient, productive, accurate and timely manner in alignment with protocol specifications

Manages the selection, training and development and on-going performance of the billing department staff.

Actively involved in continuous billing and collection process improvement to maximize reimbursement.

Monitors contracts with payers and ensure that they are abiding by those contracts.

Oversees the staff in collecting payments for deductibles, office co-pays, and co-insurance

Oversees financial counseling with patients who are looking at large medical bills

Runs reports monthly to ensure that the accounts are worked timely

Ensures that the appropriate billing codes are being used

Ensures that new employees are fully and properly trained before they start working directly with patients, physician offices, and insurance companies. If any patients have denials of specific bills, these disputes typically go to the billing managers for review. The billing manager is in charge of escalated customer disputes and is expected to resolve them.

Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Five (5) years of Medical Billing and Collection Experience
Minimum Experience required

3-5 years of medical coding and billing cycle and revenue cycle management

3-5 years successful management experience

Knowledge

Extensive knowledge of medical coding and billing cycle and revenue cycle management

Good working knowledge of Accounting, data, administrative processes and principles, applicable regulations and state and federal laws (minimum 2 years)
