Bookkeeper (hybrid) – Phoenix, AZ

We are a small but ambitious accounting practice that provides a range of services including bookkeeping, payroll, sales taxes and fractional Controller services. We are passionate about delivering personalized financial solutions to small and medium-sized construction and real estate businesses. Position Overview:

This is a mid-level hybrid role based in Phoenix, AZ, with a mix of remote work and in-person responsibilities. As a Bookkeeper, you’ll manage the day-to-day financial operations for a portfolio of clients while helping build and strengthen our internal bookkeeping systems. You’ll prepare accurate financial reports, ensure compliance, and provide insights that help clients make confident financial decisions. Experience in construction accounting is preferred.

Occasional local travel is required for client onsite visits, firm events, and business development networking functions. Candidates must have reliable transportation, a valid drivers license, and active auto insurance. Mileage reimbursement will be provided for approved work-related travel.

Key Responsibilities

1. Administrative & Client Support

  • Manage calendars, meetings, and communications for efficient workflow.
  • Prepare agendas, documents, and presentations for client and internal meetings.
  • Handle email and document organization with professionalism and discretion.
  • Maintain secure and well-organized digital filing systems.

2. Financial Management

  • Perform full-cycle bookkeeping. AP, AR, GL, and bank reconciliations for multiple clients.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients, providing clear communication and support.
  • Assist with tax preparation and compliance (sales tax, payroll, 1099s, etc.).
  • Utilize QuickBooks, Xero, and other tools to manage ledgers and generate reports.

3. Process & Project Management

  • Track projects, deliverables, and deadlines while supporting the leadership team.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities.
  • Support special projects, research, and analysis as needed.

4. Technology & Systems

  • Confidently navigate digital tools and software.
  • Learn new systems quickly and contribute to evolving workflows.
  • Demonstrate curiosity and initiative with tech-driven solutions.

Qualifications

Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in a client-facing or public accounting setting.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Xero, and Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Certifications (QuickBooks ProAdvisor, Xero Certified) are a plus.
  • Experience with construction or real estate industries preferred.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace and task management tools (e.g., Asana).
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple clients and meet deadlines.
