Bookkeeper

Hours per week: Full-Time: 40 hours per week
Compensation: $25 - $30 / hour

Job Summary
Working within SafeNest’s accounting systems and fiscal processes, the Bookkeeper processes payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions; ensures accuracy and efficiency of accounting entries; and provides financial, administrative, and clerical services to the administration department and the agency overall.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Process and reconcile all accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, including payroll.
  • Monitor, record, and reconcile incoming payments including client fees, donations, and grant income.
  • Process bills and submit payments accurately, maintaining a bill payment schedule to ensure timely payments.
  • Create and send invoices; receive payments.
  • Compile/sort invoices and check, cash, and credit card payments, matching payments to invoices.
  • Work with all relevant accounting, bill payment, and donation platforms and databases.
  • Work with SafeNest’s accounting firm for month-end accounting reviews and reconciliations.
  • Process remote check deposits.
  • Maintain vendor relationships.
  • Reviews and audits health insurance invoices.
  • Maintain complete and current financial files and supporting documentation.
  • Research, track, and resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Record financial transactions into the general ledger system.
  • Assist with file preparation for the annual audit process.
  • Perform other clerical and accounting duties as needed or assigned.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Accounting required (Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred) or 2+ years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping in lieu of degree.
  • Proven ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail while meeting deadlines required.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in MS Office, spreadsheets, and accounting software required.
  • Experience with Paycor is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with donation management preferred.
  • Ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records.
  • High degree of integrity in handling cash, monetary transactions, and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication, organization and time management skills.

  • Regular attendance during scheduled business hours is expected.
  • This position requires occasional flexibility in work hours as needed to accomplish department goals and objectives.
