GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Maintains the accounts for the White Plains Housing Authority; does related work as required.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and either:

(A) A *Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, or in Business Administration (including or supplemented by 12 credits in accounting) and one (1) year of accounting or double entry bookkeeping experience; or

(B) Five (5) years of accounting or double entry bookkeeping experience; or

(C) A satisfactory equivalent combination of the foregoing training and experience.

*NOTE: Education beyond the secondary level must be from a regionally accredited institution or one recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents of the New York State Department of Education as a post-secondary degree granting institution.

Overview
The White Plains Housing Authority (WPHA) is seeking a detail-oriented, proactive and reliable Bookkeeper to support the financial operations of the organization. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and housing authority policies. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, including invoicing, collections, and vendor payments
  • Reconcile bank statements and financial discrepancies on a regular basis
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
  • Prepare and maintain financial records for audits and compliance reviews
  • Monitor budgets and track expenditures to ensure alignment with funding requirements
  • Support payroll processing and related record keeping
  • Maintain organized and secure financial filing systems (electronic and physical)
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate financial data and reporting
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including HUD guidelines where applicable
  • Knowledge of governmental or nonprofit accounting practices and Housing Authority experience is a plus

Pay: $66,048.00 - $85,112.00 per year
