Located in the Pine Hills community of Albany NY, RISSE provides comprehensive, year-round educational and support services to the refugee and immigrant community. RISSE operates Youth Programs, Adult English Literacy/Language Programs, civics classes, life skills orientation, job search assistance, case management, and more. Position Description: Bookkeeper (Part-time)

Reports to: The RISSE Executive Director, who will at least annually evaluate the candidate’s performance on the basis of the elements of this job description and the personnel policies of RISSE.

Duties

  • Manage Agency Finances: Manage and record all financial transactions using QuickBooks Online. Manage overall agency account payable and accounts receivable, bank deposits and monthly bank reconciliations, monitor operating budget and cash flow and prepare regular financial reports.
  • Prepare journal entries, conduct account analysis, and reconcile accounts including balance sheet and general ledger accounts.
  • Coordinate Communications with External Auditor: Work with external auditing firm in preparation of annual audit.
  • Assist Executive Director with grant management: Prepare financial reports for grant applications and grant reports as requested.
  • Prepare Tax Exemption Filings: Prepare and file annual land tax exemption paperwork. Prepare proof of tax exemption requests for vendors (W9).
  • Manage Payroll and Consultant Payment (1099): Work closely payroll company and audit firm to ensure federal and state tax filings are completed in a timely manner, including 1099s for all contractors. Manage employee and independent contractor paperwork.
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other relevant financial regulations.
  • Assist Executive Director with fundraising as needed: Manage agency e-news.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles within corporate or non-profit settings.
  • Strong proficiency with accounting software Quickbooks Online
  • Knowledge of double entry bookkeeping, journal entries, account reconciliation, and financial concepts.
  • Familiarity with governmental accounting standards and tax experience is a plus.
  • Ability to perform bank reconciliations, account analysis, and balance sheet reconciliation accurately.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of debits & credits, general ledger accounting, and financial report writing.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate across teams and support audit processes.

Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
