Job Description
General Description:
The Budget Analyst will provide technical, administrative and project support, critical to the management of budgeting, financial reporting, budget preparation, forecasting, monitoring, and analysis.

Duties and Tasks:
  • Analyze and verify financial information, prepare budget analysis and projections, and maintain accurate records
  • Prepare initial budget entries and ongoing budget adjustments
  • Provide administrative support to the Budget Office including utilizing independent judgement; answering routine inquiries; and maintaining knowledge of general office procedures to perform moderately complex office duties
  • Establish and maintain departmental budget files; prepare fiscal reports; and update the Budget Office SharePoint site
  • Independently collect, analyze, and report data that supports Budget Office financial analysis.
  • Assist in the resolution of data conflicts within and between data sources.
  • Develop methods to monitor data integrity progress and present corrective action plans

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

  • Critical thinking skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of governmental accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, effectively plan and coordinate multiple projects in timely manner.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and use good judgment at all times.
  • Ability to work independently and to function in a team environment.
  • Analytical skills to identify potential data integrity issues.
  • Excellent communication skills.


Minimum Work Experience:
  • Experience utilizing fund accounting in an accounting and/or budgeting environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, Access.
  • Experience with data entry demonstrating excellent attention to detail.
  • Administrative experience.
  • Experience with customer service demonstrating a commitment to resolving matters in the best possible manner.
  • Experience with reconciliations and/or evaluation of data ..


Additional Considerations
  • Experience working in a Higher Education environment.
  • Experience with research, investigate and analyze large quantities of data.
  • Experience working with a data warehouse and/or data visualization tools/systems (i.e. Power BI, Qlik Software, SQL, etc.)
